In your opinion, do you think AG is doing what needs to be done behind the scenes to re-build the program to acheive sucess? or is he a lame duck coach that we are writing off, just waiting to be fired?
I get this year is bad.... brutal at times. Yes we've taken some steps forward over the past few years. This year, it feels like we've digressed much of our progress made since he's been here. We've got talent, we have guys who can score and handle the ball. Defensively we are as good as we've been in a long time. What we don't have is a servicable big man like J Greene. A true post, with the ability to drain the baseline jumper from 16 feet.
If this team had that, I think you would see a much different result. The developement of Mouse, Carl and Nick have been the biggest let down for me. Jacobs being the most promising a year ago to take over has proven wrong thus far.
I get our offense is anemic at times. I feel like we are still running the same mentality and formation we were the past few years when we had big guys down low who could score.
I have two questions and gripes about AG right now:
1) Why has AG not made adjustments in our offensive approach to adjust to the fact that we have almost zero post play?
2) Why are we not recruiting our biggest need there?
One thing I wish people would remember is that this year was always going to be iffy on whether we could be an NCAA team. Our 7-0 start raised expectations past where they should have been. Throw in the injuries and a certain 2 forwards not making any progress developing and we have been destined to the NIT since the season started.
If we don't make immediate improvements next year offensively and in rebounding, fire Grant.
We don't have any inside present. We need some big men to take some pressure off of the guards. Now with that said, we should drive to the basket more to draw fouls and get to the foul line. That is my take on the basketball team. I think CG is doing the best he can right now but it do seem like he has lost a little fire in him.
If this were his second year here I could understand some of the problems. But what bothers me the most is that we hired someone to take it to another level than where it was at the time. It's been four years now. I just am having trouble with excuses at this point in the tenure. We are painful to watch, and there is just no excitement
within the entire program. It's honestly at an all time low for me, and I don't know if it can be changed with what we have. I hope so, but I'm losing faith quickly.

1. Best guess is concerned about the depth; team already looks tired at the end on games not playing uptempo.
2. Mouse, Carl, and Nick have the size but not the athleticism in my opinion. I think Mouse has improved from last year but still more of a role player than difference maker IMO. I think Grant is this year trying to address this need, but these recruits need to eat a couple of dozen biscuits and hit the gym.
Behind the scenes, CAG just missed on some of his recruits but no plan B. I like Grants stoic demeanor on the court but I'm starting to think the program needs a coach that can motivate, even entertain the fan base. Need to get some donors going.
I want him to stay, but I think he is going to bolt at the next big offer. I'm wondering if he is "happy" in Tuscaloosa. I can tell you first hand that having a bunch of attitudes on the team can ruin the chemistry and your happiness with what you are doing.

What has he done here that would make you think Grant is going to get a next big offer? I'll make a prediction, whenver Grant's time as our HC ends, Grant will end up either as an assistant for a major program to teach Defense or he will be HC of some small school or insignificance mid-major.
Alabama will be the best HC job Grant ever gets.
I think all the AG haters need to get a life. All yall do is complain but yall dont look at the fact that two of our best players are gone from last year we have 1 senior one the team every body else are freshman for the most part. That means they are young and are still learning and they will make mistakes. You people don't see that yall just want to complain instead of supporting the team. Them man is recruiting good hell the last two classes have been rank when was the last time bama had ranked classes. He is moving the program in the right directions that is the problem today people dont no how to be patient and understand that when you are building a program it takes time and you can't look at whats going on with the football program and expect the same thing with the basketball program. It takes time so if yall don't like whats going on and cant support the basketball program then shut the fuck up and support somebody else program.
Biggest problem is his offensive philosphy. Our offense philosphy is to basically throw the ball around the three point line until about 5 seconds left and we never get off a good shot. Our defense is good, but like I have said over and over, when you consistenly score in the 50s you are not going to win in college basketball, that is a fact. While our half court defense is great, our press gets broken easily at times and leads to easy layups or dunks for the opponents, something we never get because we dont try to attack the defense before they get set.
I honestly think if we would be more aggressive and attack the basket on offense and get away from the press and just play our half court defense we would be a lot better. We get more points scored on us in our half court press than we get ourselfs using it. Until CAG changes his offense and this team learns to start scoring in the 60s instead of the 50s, we are going to be a very average and subpar team. Sure, our style of play will allow us to be in most games with most teams we play, but it also keeps the bad teams in the game with us as well and we lose many games we shouldnt because of it.
I dont think we are getting better, I actually think we are getting worse. Look at our PPG each year since he was hired. It goes down each year and we just scored 37 points against Auburn.
You can criticize something and support it at the same time.
You think Grant's recruited well? Ok, let's analyze that perspective. He has brought in some highly ranked guys but this team is poorly constructed. In year four, it is completely his team, with the exception of Steele, so that means that it is completely his fault. No inside presence completely neutralizes the strength of this team which is guard play. It did not take a rocket scientist to know that we needed some help in the paint. All we have is Gueye, Jacobs, and Engstrom. Two projects and a average post player. That's just not going to do it.
Also, you asked when was the last time Alabama had a ranked recruiting class. Where have you been man? Gottfried killed it on the recruiting trail when he was here. He brought McDonald's All Americans and top 25 kids on a regular basis. Gottfried just couldn't coach and develop players. Unfortunately, it is beginning to look like Grant is suffering from the same inability to develop talent and make adjustments.
If Grant does well, then that means Alabama does well. Therefore, in want him to succeed. However, 37 points against a horrible auburn team is inexcusable. Also, I don't know if you have been watching the games, but every commentator has criticized Grant's "offense". No one understands what we are doing on the offensive end of the court. It is horrible. Up until this point, no adjustments have been made. As a matter if fact it has only gotten worse has the season goes along.
I dont believe that Grant is going to be fired anytime soon. However, I sincerely hope that he finds an assistant coach that can help him develop talent and cordinate an offense. This is getting ridiculous.
He has been "moderately" successful at a "football school". He'll land a decent job.
My biggest problem with CAG is he is turning into CMG. He is becoming stubborn about his offensive philosophy with the "Outside/In" game just like CMG did with the "High Post". That is my only problem with him at this moment. He is still a good coach. I hope he does something to change soon.
Sigh....what a horrible post.
Yes our two best players are gone from a year ago, but we played without Mitchell and Green for multiple games last year as both were suspended and Mitchell was kicked off the team midway through the season. We do only have one senior but we also only have one freshman, our team is filled with juniors and sophomores who have played a ton of minutes. You can't use the excuse that Lacey, Randolph, Cooper, and Jacobs are "young" anymore.
He may have brought in a highly ranked class, but so did Gottfried and he did consistently. Gottfried had trouble keeping talent on campus and developing them and I haven't been too thrilled with the development of Jacobs and Gueye and Grant has also had a couple players transfer. Gueye has been on campus for two seasons and still doesn't know how to set a screen, he gets called for a moving screen every game. You say the program is moving in the right direction but its trending backwards this year compared to the last two seasons and its mainly due to his lack of recruiting quality big men.
I don't think Grant will or should be fired after the season, but next season needs to be a great one with what we have returning so next season will be a make or break for Grant's program. I like Coach Grant and hope he succeeds, but he deserves all the criticism he receives in regards to his offense and the current state of the program. Its year 4 and the whole roster is his except for Steele. There is no excuse to lose to Tulane, Mercer, and Dayton at home and that pathetic performance Wednesday night to your instate rival was one of the worst games in Basketball history.
Your assessment is dead on. I like CAG, however, that was the poorest show of Alabama Basketball in the game against Awburn that I've seen in some time. I hope he can turn it around NEXT year.......because it won't happen this year.
I think our expectations are out of whack. Bama basketball can never be Bama football. We can't reel in top recruits. In the same way, top recruits leave other states to come play football for Bama, top recruits leave Alabama to play for the blue bloods of college basketball. We are one of the 4 or 5 best teams in the SEC. I suspect we'll be even better next year. Wednesday's loss was bad, but besides Wednesday, I've been impressed with our team.
Think Grant is the best defensive coach Bama could have. The only players offensively that can score on a consistent basis is releford and Lacey. That's rough for any Coach. Grant has at least another year and hope he gets some help on that side either recruiting or coaching. If he thinks the status quo on offense is acceptable than he should be fired.
What I think is most of the people on this board has the GEORGE WALLACE FEVER on AG, he could have a great season and they wiil still have something to GRIPE about .Most of them are COLOR BLIND.I got news for all of the GRANT haters . He's not going no where until MAL say so.
Ha ha so we are George Wallace racists who are Color Blind (meaning we are not racist at the same time?)
dude this makes as much sense as your pro Grant points.
