Georgia going into 08 season got hot late in 07 and were the most overrated team in the SEC that next year...and well we all know how it turned out in Athens when they played the good guys...
Ehhh to me the big difference is Kevin Sumlin is a much better coach than Richt with a much better QB.
I disagree. I think the go 10-2 again. I am just glad we catch them early in the season while they are breaking in new
I agree on Sumlin, but Richt was working with a QB that would be the number one overall pick in the draft after that year. Not like he had a scrub.
I see your point but they lost a lot on their front 7 and o line...if they do have a great season then i will agree with sumlin being a great coach...this year is a huge year ton of hype, returning heisman winner and new o coordinator... and saban and several other SEC coaches have been and will be breaking down and game planning for a&m all off season
Johnny football much better than Matthew Stafford?
Never Gets Old
There is nowhere close to enough evidence to say that Sumlin is better than Richt. Guy has had one magical year in a real conference. Richt has been sustaining 10+ wins for a decade in the toughest conference in the country. He needs to prove he can win for more than one year to prove he is the better coach. Lets not forget we were a play away from leaving them with 3 loses and a field goal away on two other games against OM and La Tech from being a 4 or 5 loss team.

I suspect they go 11-1 but the loss to Bama is by 3 touches. Broken record here, but Joeckel leaving is huge as he owned us on the left edge last year and having watched Swope at A&M for 4 years he is a major loss (11 catches against us last year and a lot like Linus' blanket to JF). Thank goodness we only have to wait 6 months to find out.

Johnny is really going to miss that left tackle.
Dominating olines can take spread offenses to another level. But a spread scheme can also mask a weaker oline. Easier than can be done in a pro style offense. I wouldn't expect a drastic drop off in production due to replacing a few big guys.
IMO, their losses on defense are the bigger issue.
Not arguing or debating that. But a team like them aren't built around their defense any way. They should be able to out score most teams they play imo.
Hard to win the SEC without a top 10 defense even if your offense is electric
National Championship contenders, IMO.
The Barn did it. So it can be done. In response to Shawnboy

This. No way
I think people forget that UGA was also supposed to have an elite defense in 2008.
Manziel returns, and the RBs largely come back. They have key losses at every other unit on the team. This team is decimated a la Arkansas last year.
6/11 starters on D
5/11 starters on O
Leading scorer at RB Christine Michael
Leading scorer at WR in Ryan Swope
More than 50% of WR scoring from last year(4 of top 5 starters)
Likely #1 OT in teh draft
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th leading tacklers (7 of top 10)
Top 5 leaders in Sacks
Top 4 leaders in Tackles for loss
