If you went to the BCSCG or watched any coverage of it then you probably heard more than one Notre Dame fan or talking head proclaim that their players are held to a much higher academic standard than the Bama players are. You probably heard this even more after the Irish fell behind 35-0 to the Tide. You probably also heard Lou Holtz and Mike Golic describe repeatedly how the Notre Dame players were held to much higher moral standards than other players were and how they were all such honest young men of superior character. I dare any Notre Dame fan to ever mention either one of those self-righteous claims to my face ever again for the rest of my life.
If Manti Te'o was so gullible and/or was so lacking in even the basic amount of intelligence that would be necessary to see through someone pretending to be his girlfriend for three years then the whole "Notre Dame is academically superior" argument is officially dead. The NCAA looked into fake classes for athletes at North Carolina, perhaps if players at Notre Dame are actually this unintelligent then they should take a look at the Irish program as well. Regardless Notre Dame fans, you just lost the argument about your players being smarter than everybody else's if Te'o didn't know.
If on the other hand Manti Te'o was in on this hoax that just so happened to propel him to national prominence and into the heisman race then he is lacking in both character and morality. Cancer has affected almost everyone in some fashion and anyone who would cruelly use it in a manner such as this is a disgraceful human being.
Take your pick Notre Dame fans.... You are either lacking in character or you are lacking in intelligence. Either way you lose....again.
+1. And if anyone doesn't think Golic is as awful a homer as Lou, google Golic Notre Dame pep rally and listen to that fat (not as much so after Nutri-system) man go.
There was a thread with that pep rally link in it a few days ago. It's long but I watched it with a huge smile on my face. Golic went too far with the BAMA and SEC slams imo. There's homerism and there's self-righteous condemnation. Golic exuded the latter.
I was so surprised, I know I should not have been, but I was at their arrogance while we were in Miami. There was a group of us, 40+, that were tail gating and had a sign "Catholics for Bama" and we were playing Sweet Home Alabama after the game. A group of young ND fans walked by, we didn't say anything to them, but one of them yelled over, "You will be working for me some day". Well one of the men there who is about 60 and a doctor yelled back in a southern drawl " Son, I hope I live long enough to work for you someday"!
You do realize that the purpose of a pep rally is to work the fans up, right?
So of course he was being a homer during a pep rally, he wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't.
Now while performing his espn duties he is nowhere near the homer Lou is. Lou takes it to a whole new level.
I'm with ya...their fans were surprisingly pithy and arrogant with us as well. Trying to be pleasant, but just enough to avoid being called "antisocial", they were all just a LITTLE to sure of themselves...
1960 Les Paul
I have a feeling that being in the championship game is going to end up being one of the worst things that could have happened to ND because of the increased focus on them. There are plenty of stories out there that have not gained widespread exposure and the T'eo bebacle may just be the first of many to be exposed.
