All of you who are against expansion - please read and vote

I have loved almost everything about my experience of coming to Alabama 3 years ago to attend UA. The one thing I have grown to hate is the abundance of stupid/ignorant fans we have. One of the topics that these idiots are vocal about is expansion. These fans' arguments include: "They aren't deep south enough for us", "they're a middle of the pack team", "we already have 5 in a row, we're awesome, all other conferences suck", and "they have yell leaders". These are all ridiculous arguments. I love the SEC, and believe we have a great conference. But people seem to forget that it wasn't that long ago that we were no better than any other conference. This recent run has blinded some people to reality. Great football is played in many other places across the country. Other conferences are aggressively continuing to innovate with regard to conference structure. Larry Scott is a genius on the West Coast and you can bet your ass he isn't done expanding. The Big 10 has a great lineup of teams with tradition and history. We cannot sit back and refuse to act. Our TV deal has already been surpassed and we need an SEC network as well as a better deal with CBS and ESPN.

To address A&M specifically - they are a team with great tradition. They aren't Texas or Oklahoma, but do you really want to make the conference even more difficult with a team like that? A&M is the PERFECT candidate because they offer a very wealthy school with a great academic reputation, access to fertile recruiting grounds, more natural rivals for LSU and Arkansas, and will be a home run in terms of television. In terms of being a threat to us on the field, they will likely be on the level of Arkansas year in and year out. A great team to play, but they aren't going to surpass the big 6. This move makes perfect sense in all ways. I'm sure many of the same idiots were against adding Arkansas and USCe, but look what that move did. We were the first with a championship game and it raised the profile of our conference. As the premier conference in the nation, we must lead the way, not sit back and be happy because we've had a good half-decade.

That's about it for my rant, but it is just disappointing to me that many of our classy, intelligent, and reasonable fans' voices are drowned out by the voices of ignorant idiots who are afraid of change and refuse to look at all the factors involved. Please downvote me (or upvote) as you please and tell me what you think.

Don't you think you might be a little biased to this. I mean (taking a small clue from your name) I would assume you live in Texas.

I live in Tuscaloosa because I am a current student but yes I am from Texas. I have no direct affiliation with A&M (my Mom did go there, but my Dad went to Texas and I grew up going to games with him and cheering for the Longhorns). I am an Alabama fan and an SEC supporter and I think this move would be a home run for both parties. I'm very excited about it and think it's great, so it is frustrating to hear people shoot it down for no good reason.

I grew up in Alabama and have been a bama fan my whole life. I am not particularly for this because I dont see how this will help Alabama. I am a bama fan, not a SEC fan. But I respect your opinion nonetheless. I could see myself having your opinion given your circumstances.

That is great. This is exactly the kind of conversation I was hoping to have. Several other people couldn't have similar conversations, I guess because they assumed I was calling them idiots. I feel like I made the OP pretty clear, though. I appreciate your opinion and see where you're coming from.

  • FortWorth Tide- I gave you an upvote for your argument. You do make some good points. However, I am another that does not want A&M in our conference although it will happen. I do not want this for some of the ignorant reasons that you pointed out, and yes, I have heard some of those same responses. I believe that college football has excelled since there has been more parody in the division. There are scholarship limitations and rules that put everyone on the same playing field (figure of speach). You don't have the same 4 or 5 teams competing for the National Championship year after year. With that being said, there will be 4 super conferences in the coming years. Some of these names that are being thrown out- A&M, Fl St, Va Tech, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc,- would be better served in another conference. My point is that I would like to see other conferences beefen up a bit. It is boring to think that only 1 or 2 teams in a conference has a legit chance when that is all that they have in that conference.
