Guys, I don't know if this has been done before, and my apologies if it has, but the Grant Hill 5 1/2 minutes mile got me to thinking.
Who would you say are the all-time best athletes Bama has had? (John Hannah vs. Andre Smith... Julio vs. Deuce)
I'm 31 so my frame of reference is kind of limited. I barely remember Deuce and DT. Older guys, your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Might be fun to put an NCAA bracket thing together and see what people think. Gotta think Julio would be at or near the top. Biscuit and DT ... Samuels ... Humphrey ... Kerry Goode ... Ryans ...
Lets not forget Trent Richardson - I mean he could probably bench press Bryant Denny if the coaches would let him.. and squat it at full capacity.
This guy was the first player I really remember as a kid. I saw DT play some and remember him as a pro, but McCants was the first guy I really remember as a freshman on...
he ran a 4.51 at the combine - 6'3 255 running a COMBINE 4.51... . that's like a 4.35 at a high school summer camp!
Mark Barron was pretty incredible

Aries Monroe if I'm not mistaken, Aries still holds the vertical record of 43".
There were some stories about Rob-E Staten throwing around some pretty big weight back in the late 90's. Someone else may recall the exact numbers. I just remember hearing that he became a gym rat and I believe he ultimately became a strength coach.
Don't forget Robert Stewart. He was recruited as a RB and moved to NT.
Terrence Cody should also be included
Aries was gonna be who I said. Guy was a freak of nature.
Monroe killed it at Night of Champions.
I heard that after Aries set the vert. record he told Coach Stallings that the only way his record would be broken is if Bama started recruiting aliens.

Good idea, DT92. I was originally thinking a position-by-position roster, but a couple of top dogs would be cool.
If I could get a little more help from the board.
Maybe a top 4 from each decade and then I'll roll a few of them around to certain seeds or do some polls.
Not to diminish anything before the 60's. I just don't know if there are too many guys around to offer testimony to their abilities. Feel free to add 'em if you think they belong in the conversation.
For our purpose we'll use the year they reported to campus as their appropriate decade.
Feel free to debate the slots already allotted.
1. John Hannah
1. Derrick Thomas
2. Bobby Humphrey
3. Kerry Goode
4. Keith McCants
1. David Palmer
2. Aries Monroe
3. Chris Samuels
1. Julio Julio
2. Trent Richardson
3. Andre Smith
Jim Kraph, All American in football, big time wrestler in HS & BAMA also great in track. John Hannah was also big time at BAMA in those three sports.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!
In terms of pure "freak" athleticism....
-Held both the Alabama High School State record in the 100m dash (10.39) and the 110m hurdles (13.73) for 25+ years. His 100m record was broken in 2011 when Aaron Ernest ran 10.33 and his 110m hurdles record was broken in 2013 when Marlon Humphrey ran 13.38.
-I don't know Pierre but I knew his brother Clyde who recently passed away. He said Pierre routinely ran 4.22-4.29 and could run 4.3x on his worst of days. Had ~40-42 inch vertical.
-I'd also say Keith McCants being so fast at his size as well as Julio Jones.
-I think Landon Collins & DeAndrew White would score well on a test of pure athleticism. In fact I think both will surpass Julio's numbers at the NFL Combine if they are 100% healthy.
