I am not interested in opinions from the knee-jerk group that five minutes
into a game are calling for a coach's head, but from you guys that
rationally consider all the angles before posting. Apologies for
being politically incorrect or offending someone's
sensitivity or self-esteem.
Please give me your insightful, thoughtful analysis on why you think
Bama’s basketball team blew five double digit leads in the second halves of games
this season. If they were good enough to get the lead, then how could they lose, or
if they were too sorry to hold the lead, how did they get it. One or two games,
I could under stand, but FIVE?!
Lack of a rebounder.
It definitely cost us LSU, TN and Auburn.
1) our coaches get out-coached during the game. We game plan well but lose in the battles of adjustments
2) players lock up. Try to sit on a lead. Play not to lose. Not enough "I'm not going to let my team lose. Give me the ball, I'll do it, dammit" guys on this squad
From what I see (no one has to agree) I see us looking like we try to run the clock out when we get up by 10 or more. It is mind blowing to me that we get good open looks early to middle of the shot clock to pass it up to take a desperation shot at the end. I think this is the main reason we go on 8 minute scoring droughts. I get that we want to be methodical on offense but we have to take open shots. We did it against Ole Miss the last 6 minutes but we were too far behind.
I don't know if it is player confiedence or if it is coaching style but it doesn't work. I just don't see a team that has a "go for the throat" player or style. I can't stand Henderson from Ole Miss but that kid will cut your heart out with a soup spoon.
I like CAG defensivie style. I love our players work hard but we should be better than we are. I know our primary players are young but they have played a ton of BB now. We have to take a big step next year or he should be gone. By big step I mean we need to be a top 25 team and win a game or two in the big dance.
Road games played a part. Florida being better than us is why lost two of them. Not having that killer instinct to put somebody away. The other team fighting back and us not stopping the run. We have to improve on this and we will.
1. Lack of low post threat
2. foul trouble (lack of depth)
3. No pure shooters/scorers
4. Poor rebounding/box outs
5. Careless ball handling
6. Need a RIM protector
7. Need an ALPHA dog
IMO....the lack of a low post threat coupled with no great shooters leads to hot/cold streaks. When Releford or Lacey gets going we are good. But if the other team can slow down Releford, we have a hard time scoring. Lacey has looked horrible the 2nd half of the season. Remember he was averaging 14-15 a game early on. Cooper is all or nothing and has a hard time staying out of foul trouble due to guarding bigger guys. I think this team needs a wing that can get offense one-on-one to break down defenses. A pure scorer coupled with a legit post threat would go a long way in bringing more consistency.

Opponents will go on runs. The only way to neutralize that is to score. When a program doesn't put a premium on creating offense inside the perimeter, it goes on long scoring droughts itself. Our scoring droughts coincided with opponents' runs. That's not a coincidence
We also lack mental toughness. We don't have that alpha dog that gets pissed when the crap hits the fan. Instead of getting focused, we go into a shell and teams make 5-0 runs become 15-0 runs on us.
That is just stupid you have some really good teams out there now that are not ranked. Also you can't say that if we don't be in the top 25 next year and we must win some games in the big dance then he should be fired that is so stupid. The man is building a program yall act like bama was a great program before CG got there and he has ran the program in the ground. This program is a lot better now than it was when CMG had it.
Ramble says what?
#1 - we have no inside game yet run our half court offense through our inside players. An inside-out O must have a 1-2 punch inside and capable shooters from the perimeter. We have little of either.
#2 - our inability to work inside consistently, due to Jacobs being our only option, allows the defense to guard the 2 Trevors tightly, taking away our best outside shot options.
#3 - when the defense adjusts to our O, we have little else to fall back on. We cannot feed the paint because we have no paint presence. We run a skip-pass offense or allow the ball handler to improvise in hopes he can create something. This is an NBA approach, which is not only inconsistent, but dependent on great individual skills, which we lack.
#4 - when other teams make a run, Grant does nothing to squelch it by calling timeouts or making adjustments. He expects our players to adjust on their own. They panic and revert to what they did in high school. 1 on 1 improvising. There are no repercussions for doing this.
#5, other contributors include our Youth, our lack of depth, our lack of size, and our inconsistent effort.
To a team like UF why would they be inspired to play us? They are much better having a couple of NBA guys on the floor. At some point they wake up and talent takes over.
How come some teams hang with Bama football for a half or more and mid way through the third quarter we begin to put them away? Did their coaches all of a sudden get stupid? Nope, inspired talent took over.
As for Grant's defensive philosophy it seems much like Nick's in football. Other teams don't want to play against our D.
Not having a consistant inside scoring threat...When a team goes on a run we need that guy who get in down low and score or get fouled to slow other teams momentum...We have to stop runs with 3 point shots and sometimes the long rebounds will start a fast break then the 6point run turns to 10-12 point run.....Hopefully the kid from Greensboro will work on his inside power game, he is pretty decent inside but he has got to get stronger and consistant.....RTR
I would have to say the scoring droughts we seem to always have contributed greatly
