Column from Andy Baggot today of the Wisconsin State Journal on a potential Alabama-Wisconsin game.
"First impressions, second thoughts and the third degree:
Two schools of thought have convened now that it appears University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez is serious about trying to get defending national champion Alabama on a future football schedule.
Over here, you have those thrilled by the idea of such an overdue upgrade and the message it sends. On a list of elite non-conference matchups that the Badgers could face, the Crimson Tide top a list that also includes Southern California, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
Over there, you have those who wonder if Alvarez and UW coach Bret Bielema should have their heads examined. Alabama is not only supremely, perennially talented, it brings a street gang approach to the field and if you don't come properly equipped — physically and mentally — you will be shamed.
It might be coincidence, but the fact the negotiations are focused on the 2015 season should make such an assignment easier to embrace. On paper, the Badgers will have fifth-year seniors at quarterback (Joel Stave), tailback (Melvin Gordon), fullback (Derek Watt), wide receiver (Jordan Fredrick and A.J. Jordan) and a veteran-laden offensive line. It's not hard to look on the other side of the ball and see potential cornerstone talents at linebacker (Vince Biegel) and cornerback (Darius Hillary).
I know, I know. The paper with all those projections could be wadded up and thrown away by the time 2015 rolls around. Heck, Bielema might be working elsewhere if his dream job — wherever that may be — opens up.
But if the Badgers are going to push their scheduling envelope to such an extreme — remember, a four-team playoff will replace the current BCS model in 2014 and strength of schedule will be highlighted — then why not go after the best and see how you really stack up?"

Wisconsin Badgers football
Sounds good. They will be found wanting but I like the match up.
TRADITION IS THE FOUNDATION GREAT PROGRAMS ARE BUILT UPON.
When we beat Texas in the bcs championship, the wisconsin coach then voted Texas
#1.I don't want anything to do with them.
I loved this quote. "Alabama is not only supremely, perennially talented, it brings a street gang approach to the field and if you don't come properly equipped — physically and mentally — you will be shamed."
Old time blue collar line up and play football - Football. I like the matchup. While obviously we are on a different level right now than Wisky, they aren't too many levels down and they line up and play football very similar to our style. You can take one thing from a game like this should it happen, both teams will enjoy the ice baths afterwards.
I say do it. Smash mouth vs. balanced team that plays better smash mouth with better athletes. If Wisconsin has an up year, it could be a game (if we have a "down" year). I say bring it.
I like it, bring on the Badgers
I can assume Bret Bielema, the UWisc coach, is NOT in favor of this game. However, the AD, Barry Alvarez, is looking into
it. A game in Chicago on Labor Day weekend for the Crimson Tide and Badgers would be a great showcase game and I
bet ESPN would be keen to televise it or possibly even ABC. Coach Saban has not backed down from such challenges
and has always had the goods and preparation to prevail. This would give folks in the Mid-West a close-up view of our
team and could help us out in the playoff tabulations choosing the top 4 teams then. So I hope it happens and would love
to go, and enjoy it as I did the Alabama-Michigan in Dallas last month. RTR!
This is all hear when I see this thread...
I like the Idea. Barry knows to get better you must play better teams not gonna get that playing legends or leaders.
