Anybody else feel like this game is going to be a blowout? I just don't see a team that struggles with Purdue, Pitt, and BYU making a game out of this.
Why set yourself up for disappointment? Better to expect a close game and be pleasantly surprised if we get to empty the bench than get angry when it ends up being close.
The one great equalizer in College Football is that you only need to be better than the team you are playing on the day that you play them. Yes, Alabama is a prohibitive favorite but ND will not be intimidated and all they have heard for the last several weeks is how they dont match up well with us etc. This circumstance gives them an "Us against the World" mentality and you know CBK is going to use this to motivate his team to come to play. It sets up the possibility that ND might get off first in this game. What happened the last two times a good UA opponent got off first? The games were virtual coin flips and we were lucky to win one of the two. We as fans need to understand that this years' version of Alabama cannot just show up and beat good teams. We need to play our very best. If so, then the score will probably be more comfortable but a more likely scenario is a very competitive game.
I think we win in the range of 7 to 14 (with a late score that puts it out of reach).
ND's defense is legit. It is really good with an excellent front 7. As Roll Bama Roll pointed out just on the DL (haven't read the LB breakdown yet) these lineman are from SEC country and were recruited by SEC schools. They have talent to match up with our OL unlike anyone on our schedule except for LSU. That can slow down our offense, which doesn't appear to like to start out too fast for some reason.
Also the ND offense has got better as their QB has matured. I like our better, but theirs has got better. It was sort of like watching McElroy mature into the job like in 2009 and this guy is a RSFreshman instead of RSJunior. Or like with AJ last year, but don't think their guy has done as well as AJ did. Their offense is set up like ours was in 2011 or 2009, ground and pound and rely on the defense. So they aren't going to light up the score board.
And finally, I don't much care about the Purdue game, it was the 2nd one of the gate. That was eons ago as far football games are concerned. I don't mind the BYU close call that much because BYU has a really good defense. Really good. Their offense was a train wreck after injuries at QB, but they did have a good defense. It is concerning though. And the Pitt close call was against a Pitt team that was playing better then they were early in the year and ND was coming off an emotional high with the OU road win a week before. Still they should have won by more against Pitt. My point is that they aren't perfect and those close calls do show problems, but lets no oversell that. Just look back our 09 season and how we struggled in various games (USC, Ole Miss, UT and AU). But we still won the title and still beat the hell out of UF.
Again I think we win, but people seem to focus almost exclusively on these close calls and don't look at the rest of the picture of ND's season.
Don't jinx us! I feel it too though
The 1992 National Champions beat LA Tech 13-10. I disagree with your reasoning, although I do hope the result is as predicted.

We lost a game, don't forget. Although I'm pretty sure we'll win. Don't forget our close, sloppy wins in '09.
I agree with your premise but I think ND is the one getting all the hype. I think that will be the great motivator for Bama players- defending champs disrespected. I see 14-17pt victory. ND's offense is garbage.
They don't have the legs to run with thoroughbreds. They will be there for 1st qtr, maybe half time. Depth, talent, strength, experience, and conditioning pulls away second half.
Never Gets Old
I see your point, but the actual score was 13-0.
All I have heard is the exact opposite. ESPN running stories about our weaknesses on D, how we lost a game, how ND matches up well with us,they have the best front 7 we have seen all year, and how ND seems to be a team of destiny. If anything, the media hype of ND should be ticking our players off and we should use that as motivation, not the other way around!
Hope you're right. I think it will be close but would be happy with any score as long as Bama wins!
Nope. This will be a close game up until the 4th. Rarely do teams with elite defenses get blown out. LSU in the title game is one of those exceptions. I don't see lightning striking twice for Bama in consecutive title games.
It will be a tough first quarter and maybe even up till midway of the second, then it begins!! There will be no question who is #1
ND - 17
I think it will be a blowout but we have to control our turnovers. That is what has caused most of our close games or losses to not be blowouts
