I went back and looked and pre 1926, we played both pretty regularly (apparently MSU was Mississippi A&M at that point).
If you think it's UGA, what makes you think that? If you think it's MSU, what makes you think that?
As long as I've been a bama fan, i.e. since birth, I know this is an embarrassing question. But I can't seem to find the answer.
I always thought it was msu, i don't know why, probably because we play them much more often.
Honestly it's probably both.
Um, it's UGA. There is no debate.
Honestly never thought about it; to me, it was always UGA. Having GT in there may be a reason why I always held that idea, but yeah for me it was always UGA
Cmon it has to be Georgia, because even with state being so close we really don't even acknowledge them as a potential threat...and we never have.
Georgia. No question. They were one of our main rivals back then. Mississippi State has always been Mississippi State. Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee were our 3 main rivals in those days. I regret we don't play Georgia more often, especially since we recruit the state so heavily.
BTW, Sewanee is mentioned in the verse of "Yea Alabama". I would love to hear how the verse sounds, because all we know these days is the chorus.
I'm pretty old and I seem to remember that MSU was once called the "Maroons" and became Bulldogs sometime in the 60's maybe.
Here is a link that shows the first verse of Yea Alabama which we don't sing. It reference Georgia specifically, so I would think the bulldogs are of the UGA variety.
