Upgrade? Yes. Elite and able to make UT on par with Bama, FL, UGA? No.
The same can be said for Malzahn.
By the way, he also said the rest of the SEC has left UT behind and those hoping for a return to the 90s dominance can forget it.
The also said the same about us in 2007
10 Major Poll National Titles (CFB record)
35 Bowl Wins (CFB record)
72 Wins over last 6 years (CFB record)
Really? Who said Saban wouldn't succeed at Bama? I never saw that. And, are you saying Butch Jones is on the same level as CNS? Just curious.
Have to disagree with that. The consensus wasn't if CNS would win a MNC but when and how many. It turns out that everyone was right. RTR!!!
I was reffering to the media saying the SEC had passed Bama by, which they did and said day after day after day
No one put CNS on that level. All I heard from day one was, "Bama is back" (my paraphrase). I get what you're saying. No sense bashing the Vols. And it wasn't a terrible hire like some are asserting. It will be interesting to see who he brings in as his assistants. I'm sure Sal is gone. Hate that for Sal.
actually, the media did. they said Bama had no recruiting base and that CNS would not be successful like he was at lsu.
You guys must read diff stuff than I do. Most of the stuff i recall was some national guys whining about CNS "lying" to them and how dare he do that. While most local/regional guys said good - great hire and if anyone can turn it around it was him.
I didn't read as much then as I do now but that is how I remember it.
Oh and finebaum said saban would win multiple championships during his Bama tenure.
All of espn said Bama would win a title by our 4th year. They were wrong haha. 3. But still, no one except maybe an ignorant Barner (oxymoron) or Tenn fan said Saban couldn't do it.
I definitely don't remember that. I remember the ridicule we received before Saban came on board but the only criticism after was how much money we were spending.
around the horn spent days saying exactly what I said.
I can see that bunch of clowns saying that.
I remember whilbon bitching for weeks (and still brings it up) that how dare Saban lie to us. What a pos, kids/recruits won't respect that and on and on.
I disagree with this. They just need a coach and Jones is not the coach to do it.
yeah, wilbon did that as well. vividly remember tim colishaw and bill plaschke going on and on about how CNS will never be able to recruit at Bama like he did at lsu and that he wouldn't have the same type of success.
When plaschke is being serious and not playing a role he is pretty good, I don't necessarily agree with him but he makes good arguments.
Shows how important the right coach is. Saban could go to a lot of schools and dominate just like he's doing now.
Yep, there are 25+ schools he could probably win a championship at.
I remember it the same as you! As for the "around the horn guys" idiots! I skip that dumb a$$ show!
How soon we forget the facts...Nick Saban was going to be just another coach in the SEC according to most experts. He had failed at Miami and Bama was crazy for paying him 5 mill a year. He would never be as successful at Bama as he was at LSU because he'd have to split his recruiting Base with that beastly program in Lee County.

I would love for someone to ask them to defend those comments now!!!
Yep. The only people that believed he would have a great amount of success at Alabama were BAMA fans.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Cor 10:4
Herbie was the only one I can remember that believed Saban would win and win big at Alabama. I specifically remember him saying, "it's not if, but when."
Back to the OT...I don't know if there was anyone available out there who can make UT on par with UA, UF, and UGA.
There seem to be no elite coaches interested in moving.
