I really want CAG to be successful but this offense is anemic.
Yep. And his comments are pretty common sense.
Anyone notice when CAG was going over the play on the inbounds and NJ/TR looked like they weren't even listening? Looked as though only LR was listening.

our team is not that good and wont ever go deep in the tourney the way they play. They stand around on offense, no outside shooters, defense gets lazy and the coaching isn't good.
At least we have football guys.
It took Bob Knight saying this for you to realize it?
Wow, I actually got a down vote for this post. I guess there is someone out there who is content with this type of offense. Oh well. To each his own, I guess.

Otherwise I didn't care for him as a commentator. Obviously didn't scout the teams. He continually seemed surprised that Gueye wasn't getting the ball as if he could do something with it. Screwed his name up all night. Called Steele a "big man" and wondered why he was involved with the in bounds play. Couldn't keep with with margin of score, timeouts, etc.
No, but there are some Bama fans who think we are not qualified to critique our team. BK, on the other hand, brings substance.
The part that drives me crazy is how they run the shot clock down almost every possession and have to end forcing a bad shot at the last second to try and prevent a violation. That's unbelievable
That's because there is little movement off the ball. Most of our offense is based on a 2 man game. Or we'll run a 3-2 but have a weak inside game so we end up passing it around the perimeter until the clock runs down.
Bama has been doing this for a few years. We did this during some of the Gottfried years as well. Drives me nuts. Pass pass pass pass, I don't want it, you take it, I don't want it, desperation shot and buzzer sounds.
This was my biggest gripe with Gottfried. He had no offensive system. I thought Grant would be different, but so far, nothing has changed.
I think Gueye would surprise a ton of people if he got say, 10-12 touches a game. His game has improved tremendously, and he is definitely the best big defender we have on the team. For our team, Steele is a big man, lol. I noticed he had a few mistakes that happens with age, but I wouldn't go against him on analysis of the players.
Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
This - which is part of the reason I think so many people are already fed up w/ Grant. It feels like the same offensive production for the last 8 years.
It is really hard to understand how we seem to play with pretty good fundamentals and team effort/intensity, as well as coaching, on defense to then turn around and play so flat w/ no basic fundamentals on the offensive side. I don't understand it. You don't have to have an offensive guru assistant coach to draw up movement away from the ball. Most decent high school coaches can teach that. I really just don't get it.
"Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places you have to look at it right."
I've said it before and I'll say it again...recruit basketball players!
The other problem is the change in coaching styles at the highschool level......way to many coaches kissing guys a**es and not teaching true basketball.....The super talented players are tought to do it on their own...works great when you are bigger and more skilled than anybody else on the court but not so much when they get to the next level.
A simple pick n rolls and give n goes can be deadly if both guys understand it and understand what a pick is for....point being we don't have guys who understand the game and that's why they look like they are going through the motions because they are.
Our gaurds always go wide left or right....never cuting to the goal off the picks that are being set...this does two things....
#1 no switch is made because the gaurd is no threat to score running left or right. The entire point of a screen is to create scoring lanes period end of story.....if the ball handler uses the screen he will have a lane unless a switch is made...in that case the pick man will have a lane if he rolls correctly....We don't set good picks..we don't cut off picks and we don't roll off the picks. We suck at the most basic skills of the game.
#2. You have cleared out away from the ball on the wing.....nothing takes place that makes your man pull off of you so when the play breaks down it looks like you are just standing around and not doing anything to get open....but what should have taken place was your man should have had to leave you in order to help cut off the scoring lane from the ball handler or the pick man. Thus you will never see a clean kick out for a wide open shot.
This is the very foundation of basketball and we don't have it.
You are dead on.
