Like Joe Simpson said, why pitch to Hunter Pence(a young Mickey Mantle) when you have a .199 hitter on deck.It just amazes me that they let Pence beat them.

There should have been no chance to pitch to him because he should have been in our lineup. He was just who we needed.

  • I admit the Braves are my 2nd favorite team besides Bama and I have been following them closer this year because my son is so crazy about them and we watch them together at night but this month of September has been miserable.
Anyway, just an interesting Braves story to share from my teenage years. When I was 16 or 17,several of us from my hometown would go up for a weekend to see the Braves play and it was crazy. The Braves had something called the picnic area right next to the home team bullpen on one side and another picnic area on the 3rd base side right next to the opponents bullpen. It was a crazy area and they sold as much beer to you as you could take in.Anyway, one of the guys that went with us that year was Phil Paremore(of the Dothan Eagle, huge barn fan and was going to the barn as a college student then).Bob Boone was down in the bullpen that night warming up the relievers because I Steve Carlton was pitching and Tim McCarver always caught him.So we could lean over the railing in the picnic area and basically be about 5 feet from the bullpen catcher. This was the late 70's and there was a big story out implicating a bunch of baseball players snorting cocaine and Bob Boone was one that was implicated. So Phil is basically out of his mind and he starts leaning over the fence(the picnic area was on the field)and starts taunting Bob Boone, asking him if he has been snorting any coke and ragging him about why Steve Carlton wouldnt let him catch for him.It was hilarious.Boone never flinched, but he took some serious taunting that night.I recall one of the Phiilies relievers coming over at some point that weekend and asked us if we ever stopped partying in the picnic area.

+1. I was in both picnic areas and it was insane. Skip loved it when people got crazy down there on a slow night.

Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun. But Mama, that's where the fun is.
