Mike Anderson took over a putrid Arkansas team, who had been worse than Alabama over the last 5 years. In 2 years he has beaten 4 legit top 25 teams. He did all of that with only one holdover from the previous staff, Powell, being decent. His team this year has no seniors and brings in a big time recruiting class. They are a bubble team like us, but his teams have improved greatly from the 18-13 team he inherited. He's done all of this while have a young PG run the point for two years. Kind of like Alabama. The defense has improved and the offense has improved a ton in that span. It can be done people in under 4 years. I guarantee in year 3 they will be a force.
I said big schools or big conferences in my post. Last time I checked the Big East was a big time basketball conference. Please read my entire post next time, maybe you will learn something.
Edit, as an addition, do you really think South Florida as a member as the Big East was going to threaten to sue the NCAA over not getting a fair shake in getting NCAA tournament Bid? They are part of one of the best and biggest bball conferences, they are not going to be a "little man" sueing the NCAA because they couldn't get a fair shake with the selection committee. Just being in the Big East with their conference schedule gives them all the clout they will ever need.

lulz. I don't think so, Tim. The tragedy of the SEC sucking so hard and Bama's offense being so anemic is that people can't recognize how great the D really is. Shame. All that matters is W not L.
I like Mike Anderson, but his 2 Arkansas teams have played like garbage on the road.
Grant's teams (even in year 1), have played well on the road for the most part.
That was a trait of CMG's teams and it drove me up the wall. You never felt good when the team played outside of Coleman Coliseum.
This is a pointless argument because he hasn't done enough to get fired but he hasn't done enough to warrant everyone's support. We are in the middle and it's a tough place to be. Some of it's on him some of it isn't, but we are mediocre. Mediocrity is tough because you don't get enough info to feel good about any choice so you let it drag on forever. We better draw a line in the sand because our program should not be in this spot a few years down the road.
Great post Tide411! I agree with you!
Some people like mediocrity...others prefer to take it to the next level. Being mediocre has less risk, that's your choice.
So your point is they will probably improve in year 3 and just magically learn to win road games...what are we against these great almighty Mike Anderson coached Arky teams?? Oh wait that's right...3-0.

Lol man I love these posts! It's like if you compare Grant to anybody and it shines him in a negative light then we're not fans. I was pointing out Anderson had drastically changed Arkansas in a very short period, and no he didn't need 5 years to do it. Year 2 they became a bubble team, by year 3 I expect them to be a tourney team while maintaining that success. Anderson has proven his track record twice before.
How has he drastically changed things when he hasn't made the dance, can't win a road SEC game, and you are on the Bama board singing his praises but the coach you have an agenda against is 3-0 against him???
Oh but you "expect" them to be a tourny team next year, so I guess since you expect that, that trumps facts.
For the record I think MA is a very good coach, but I just think that was a poor example for "drastically changing" a program.
Why do people accuse anyone who isn't sure Grant is the long term answer as being "fair weather" or "gumps" or "not knowing basketball"?
Most of the people with reservations about Grant went to the University and went to a hundred basketball games while there and have watched every game since.
You are just being silly if you think there aren't two sides to this discussion and feeling either way makes you dumb or a bad fan.

agreed. The people that feel it's time for a change are getting bashed pretty hard. I think he should maybe get one more year, but if we don't show improvement next year its time to go.

I think we all need to come to a firm conclusion on what our expectations are for our program (which I thought we did during the end of the CMG era). Mine are :
- SEC title every 5-10 years, compete for the top 3-4 every year
- NCAA 75% of years w/ runs to sweet 16 with certain teams built for it (every 3-4 years)
- Top 50 RPI teams 75% of years
Is that too much to ask at Alabama? Maybe, but I think we can find the right guy who agrees those are reasonable goals, and my guess is Coach Grant would say those are reasonable goals.
I would have to agree with you that these are reasonable goals. A couple of things to think about. Grant had to let some kids go or they left when he first got here. In comparison, for every kid that leaves in Basketball is like 10 players leaving in Football. I am going to agree with the post above that says Grant has one more year to make the Dance or there needs to be a change.
Thing with Arkansas is they are dreadful on the road. A good coach will split road games if they have superior talent.
Frank Martin thumped them in Columbia by 21..
