No sarcastic answers please but I missed most of the game. I turned it on with about 3 minutes left and we were down 14. Then we shot lights out down the stretch. Was ole miss shooting lights out or were we up and down as usual with periods with no scoring? I can't believe we shot 12-18 from behind the arc and lost. You don't see that very often. Would love the cliff notes version of the other thirty seven minutes. As I started this post please refrain from sarcastic posts. Looking for serious bball talk and discussion.
Ole Miss shot well and we turned it over a lot (-10 in turnover margin) but ultimately it was the fouls that were the difference (13-16 vs. 26-35 on FTs). Henderson got away with murder but for the most part the officiating seemed a lot more even than it has been for other road games. Without the turnovers or the fouls, we have a good chance of winning. Hell, we make some wide open shots, we win with them. Ole Miss played a good game and we didn't do enough to win.
That being said, I don't want to hear about how terrible our offense is anymore.
The worst defense in the SEC made us turn the ball over all night because we played scared and tenantive on offense like we usually do. Then for some unknown reason we stopped playing that way about the 5 minute mark. Started moving the ball, stopped thinking every time the ball hit somebody in the hands and took shots in rhythm which is how you are supposed to play the game of basketball. If we would have been playing this way all night and all year for that matter(not saying making all of the shots, but playing offense with some purpose) we would not be in the position we are in tonight.
That's what I've been screaming all year. We are built to run and press. Slowing up causes us to hit lulls and allow teams to have runs.
The free throw discrepancy is kind of misleading. We were fouling the final 5 minutes of the game to get back in it. Ole Miss shot 20 foul shots in the the final 5 minutes because we kept fouling. Sometimes Grant called for the team not to foul, and cooper would go put two hands on the guy in the press all the time and they would get the call. Ole Miss made more shots early, caused more turnovers, and havoc and built a big lead in the first 30 minutes. They took the peddle off the gas, and went zone because of foul trouble to their bigs and Henderson, and then we got super super hot. Ole Miss stayed in Zone, Alabama fouled and hit 3's. Ole Miss finally got out of zone at the 1:30 mark after Alabama kep hitting. Ole Miss hit enough FT's during the final 5 to win, despite Bama's redhot ending.
