I did, and read many other moo U propaganda he spews. He just wanted to stir the illegitimacy argument that barners like to do.
"I personally don't agree wtih claiming any titles four decades after the fact, so I don't necessarily think we SHOULD claim '66 or '77. I just felt we actually had a better claim to those titles than the '41 squad."
all of the pre bryant polls were retroactive except for 34. In 84 or whenever it was we started claiming we went back 60 years for the 20's titles..... So to use your criteria we can only claim 34, Bryant's 6, Nick's 3 and Stallings' 1 for a grand total of 11?
Claim it...we have as much a right to claim that one as most teams have of claiming their Championships prior to the BCS era. If somebody wants to get all "official" about the Actual number of NCAA Championships Alabama football has, it is the same amount as Auburn, Sewanee, Boise State, and any other team, because the NCAA does not recognize a national champion for Div I mens football. Instead they allow outside bodies (currently the BCS) to name a national champion.

Well he is talking about the quotes by Atchinson, who is part of "moo U". He is the one that came up with this and suddenly got UA to recongize the titles from the past.
Also he isn't saying to forget about the old title pre-wire service. He is saying he is not a big fan of now suddenly discovering 2 more titles that are 40 years after the fact. And like I said earlier, UA now only recognizes titles given by one of the two wires services: AP or UPI/Coaches. Well we didn't win either in 66 or 77 and thus there is no title to claim under UA's criteria (which I agree with).
Cecil is 100% correct.
Guys, according to many Barn fans in how they see many of their losses as moral victories...then based or that thought, we could claim many more victories...remember when Bill Curry was coach and we were undefeated and Auburn beat us...that was a moral victory just because we showed up...When we were beat by Notre Dame in the 70s by only 1 point, that again was a moral victory because we acted classy when the scoreboard wasn't in our favor. There are so many we could claim. I'd say with the way our guys were hurt while playing TAMU this year, we should go ahead and declare ourselves undefeated t becausethat game was definitely a moral victory = we tried so hard to play through the pain and almost pulled it off! LOL LOL LOL "Moral Championships!" yup

The NC standard applied for 1941 also works for '45, '62, '66, '75 and '77.
So if we persist in claiming '41, then we should go ahead and claim 20 NCs.
I've been on the drop '41 bandwagon for some time now. But, I think the real solution is ripping off another 10 championships over the next 25-30 years. We will have so many that anyone bitching about '41 will seem even more petty than they already do.
Who's with me??
Agree with dropping '41. For those wanting to adopt (especially '66)and another/others, I say "no"
It was what it was, and is what it is. Butim tired of defending the titles we claim all because of '41. Everything else has a legitimate argument. But begging for a replacement is gross, unless we change 41. With. 66. That's the most legitimate. I will take the poll of the super bowl winning coach over any pencil pushing nerd of '66.
Here's the greatest thing about being an Alabama fan:
No matter which rival you're talking to, you can always say this about 1941:
"Take it, buddy. We still have more than you."
At least I wouldn't have to change my signature again.
Someone needs to tell the NCAA then, they list the champions on their site....if they don't recognize FBS champions, then why do they have a page dedicated to it?
