Both coaches basically have their teams show up and compete but every win seems to be like pulling teeth, and you just never get the feeling that the teams ability is maximized... Fair comparison?
Stupid post. Sorry.
Our fundamentals aren't the best, and our offense is a trainwreck, but at least CAG teams have one that CMS' teams severely lacked: mental toughness. Remember how we knew a game was over the second we got behind? A touchdown deficit and you just knew it was over. Then think about how many comebacks we've had under CAG- how many tight, gut-check wins we've pulled out, and there are some clear differences.
We're too used to watching a team that takes a lead and widens it through physical domination. That's our football team. We have a BB team that isn't physically dominant, and doesn't have the ability (whether it is talent coaching or attitude) to impose its will. They usually play hard although last night they let me down in that regard.
I wonder what would happen on the floor if CAG had rosters like those Wimp put together 10- 15 years ago. We had size, speed and athleticism and we had it in waves. Seems like we always had 4 or 5 guys in the 6-6 to 6-9 range that could really run the floor. It wouldn't solve the standing around part, but we'd have a better defensive team, apply more pressure and play more in transition.
Obviously, no one gave those players to Wimp, he went out and got them. CAG still needs to proove that he can evaluate, recruit, retain and train talent. My biggest disappointment with the program has been the uneven recruiting results from year to year . My second biggest disappointment has been how long it has taken our 5*s to become top calibre performers. Lacey needed a whole year and Pollard seems to be on the same schedule.
Fair question? Yes
Fair comparison....I don't think it is
