Thats a great sign for Blake. I think Coach really likes him at QB
Saban expects perfection at every position, so he coaches everyone hard no matter the circumstances. Thats why he goes psycho when we get a false starts penalty with 2 minutes left in a 40 point blow out. I think it says more about our depth at quarterback than anything though. I would hate to know BS is our best option if AJ goes down.
I disagree, he gets at players that he knows have great potential more than ones who don't or who is expecting to have to depend on. Jmo that's why he road Aj so hard
I dont disagree with you there. He also doesnt recruit ANY player who doesnt have great potential. I dont think anyone on this board could honestly say they would be comfortable with Blake Sims running this show if AJ went down. It sucks, but if we are honest, we are thin at QB right now. Its just how it is.
I agree, but what major D-1 program that is in the hunt doesn't have significant drop off if thier number 1 goes down? Just the way it is.
I'm definitely glad Blake is getting opportunities. Talented kid
Ill give you Auburn as an example, they would improve if their number 1 went down.
Maybe CNS is plaining to use Sims during meaningful time in a game to throw the defense off for a series. I have no idea if that is the plan but just a thought.
I agree op. Of the available options, I think blake is the backup and coach wants him to b prepared should he be pushed into a starting role.
@Shane8773 either ur clueless or don't know football...take ur pick. Blake Sims has work hard especially after being in the doghouse...from getting hurt playing basketball. Everytime Blake is in the offense flows perfectly and scores. What Saban wants is"execution" whn he is in therer. All these guys on offense and defense need to be ready...in case someone goes down. As u saw with Geno Smith during the Arkansas game...he didn't execute the play and Saban went off. Translation he played better this past week. This isn't a case of who is better but who can execute the offense...right Blake Sims is doing that. So don't down play Blake! U either with us or against us!
Another thing CNS really likes is that now teams have to prepare for a zone read QB package
If something happen to AJ Really think Blake Sims is #2. Phillip just doesn't look ready for prime time.
He coaches every player that way...he also realizes he's a play away from being our QB.
"You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve"
Butt hurt? geez dude chill out. I was just giving my opinion. Look, if the coaches LOVED blake sims at QB so much he would have been there all along. and the reason he moves the offense down the field and scores every time is cause hes playing against defenses who have been beaten to a pulp for 3 quarters. I get a feeling that YOU are the one who doesnt know football. And the With us or against us comment sounds like something an AUBIE would say so keep that crap off the board. If i wanted to point out a week spot in our team i have every right to, doesnt make me against BAMA you goofball.
This is how I've felt. That he is both a backup option as well as a nice spread option attack as a wrinkle so teams have more to prepare for.
sorry guys, i just dont see it happening. I guess what im trying to say is if it hasnt happened yet i dont think it will. Look at the Eric Reid pic last year. If Saban had that much faith in Sims, why was Marquis Maze throwing that ball when Sims is probably a much better passer and as good an athlete as any?
I didn't realize George W had an account here...
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
The answer to that is simple. Saban wanted BS to be in this position sooner, but he had fumble issues last year and it got him in trouble. He is much more productive this year and Saban is giving him opportunities because he is showing the hard work and knowledge to execute. He has ALWAYS had very good potential.
Hey, i hope im wrong. But i just dont see it.
The nature of a zone read offense also demands good execution. If you take a 16 yard sack on first down, it forces you to throw downfield, which means you can't run the zone read. So, it's very important for Sims not to create negative plays if he is to be effective.
I also think having a different style is a very good thing for if AJ were to go down. Much like Jefferson against us last year, Sims would have the potential for some success early due to the defense being mostly unprepared for the offensive style we'd have when he came in. This would mean we could survive if AJ went down in a big game, and then adjust in practice the following week.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but playing Blake in that spread option formation gives opponents something else they have to prepare for. Takes time away from other preparation.
They have been working on this in practice with Blake Sims. They are not going to waste reps in practice for a player with a specific set of plays off of the zone read unless they planned on using it one game. Just the fact that they put him in the game and ran the zone read means that teams have to consider it and plan for it. Coach Saban and staff don't particularly strike me as the type of coaches that waste practice time on something unless they plan on using it.
