I have been reading about how great the teams of Coach Byrant were and decided to look back at the best teams in !955 Univ OK, Bama 1966 and Green Bay NFL champions. It is really interesting when you look at the rosters of the teams and try to think of thoses teams playing the Bama teams of today, most noteable 2009,11,12 Alabama. The average weight of the OL and DL for OK in 55 was 200 lbs ,66 Bama was around 200, green bay around 225 with a few tackles at 245, Lb at 215-225. center at 235. The Bama OL and DL was around 315 2009.11.12 was around 315. Without going into detail i will simply say that the three NC teams of the modern era would not only beat all the other teams including the NFL champion Packers but it would be a blowout. I don't think the college teams of 55, 66 would even score on the NC teams of 09,11,12.If you want to dispute this first look at the rosters of thoses teams. I am 70 years old and watched all of the teams play except the 55 team of OK.
Yes sir, I agree with you completely. We talk alot about this era & that era, but bigger is bigger, faster is faster, & stronger is stronger, especially these recent Bama teams that play like champions, with a purpose. Been watching Bama teams since about 1965, and these teams now would take those teams to the woodshed, and come back without them...it's a fact. RTR
Substitution limits had players going both defense and offense back then. You couldn't be 300lbs and play the game. My Dad played guard for Wake Forrest in the 1940's at 5'10" 210lbs and was selected as one of their top 25 players ever in 1985. Completely different game. The only way to compare teams of different eras is how well they did versus the competition of their day.
