If you look at the schedule it also favors UK...They play 5 or 6 games against a team that has a quick turnaround(Thur. to Sat) and they don't have to do it at all..Oh Well.....RTR
It's correct. I've said this about our guys for a while. They don't go to the rim looking for contact. They avoid it with off balance shots instead of taking it strong. The aggressive defense we play leads to fouls do that shouldn't surprise most.
We dont get to the rim as much or have as many guys that can create their own shots. The top teams are always at the line way more than the others. Many times they make more than their opponents have attempted. It's not the refs.
The "we don't go strong to the hoop" argument is a BS excuse from the Gottfried days when we had a bunch of soft perimeter players. Green, Jacobs, and to a degree Mitchell (when he feels like it) are very strong on the block and draw a ton of contact. Our aggressive defense certainly lends to more fouls, but not by that large a margin. UK didn't hit a fg in the last 6:30 of the game, but apparently we fouled so often in the second half that they got to the line 29 times! That's crazy. Every trip down the court after the under 4 TO was a trip to the line for UK.
Of the three you mentioned, Jacobs is the only one who looks for contact.
We don't attack the basket; therefore we won't get to the stripe much. Our points in the paint are dunks and hook shots.
