I strongly disagree. I think this is the "most" talented defense Saban has had, even if it's not the "best" based on youth and experience. Pollack is just mad that Bama is stealing the limelight of his Georgia Bulldogs.
Our secondary has issues, but it's mostly due to inexperience.
I'm glad our team isnt as mentally soft as a large faction of our fanbase. What he said is not that far off... you do not lose guys like Barron, Dareus, McClain, Hightower, Upshaw, Cody, Arenas, Chapman, K. Jackson, Menzie, Kirkpatrick and even Rashad Johnson over the last 4 years... and be as NFL talented as we have been. We have as much potential from a talent standpoint as any point in Bama's history... but no, we are not as good as last year on D and not as good as '09 and not as talented as we were in '10. It's what makes Kirby/Nick's coaching job that much more impressive... they're worth evert penny. Dont take comments like that so personally.
He's probably right on pure draftable talent but it's still the best d in the nation and our guys work extremely well together.
So it's like saying:
"Bill Gates is as poor as he has been over the past four years."
Who cares bc he's in a different world of wealth. Same with bama.

I don't think those guys have major issues. Mett was on some tom brady stuff last week.
I think talent was the wrong word to choose.. if he said experience then I would tend to agree. We have the talent.
Corso - "Alabama aint played anybody" Please...
Burn baby burn. & Go to hell tennessee
I agree with Pollack, but geez that's like saying Miss Texas is the ugliest finalist in the Miss America contest. If we don't have the best defense in the country this year we are probably top three. Last year was IMO the best defense in the history of college football. 2010 was the genesis of that defense. 2009 probably top five in Alabama history. I do not see how saying we're not at that level this year is an insult. Shut down A&M, UGa, and maybe Oregon and we can move this bunch to the head of the class.
I've seen this talked about before on ESPN & the JOX.
He's more talking about "star" power than talent. In that sense he's true. This Bama defense is more of a faceless mob that will destroy you, and doesn't have the names like previous defenses. However, this is more due to the media than the actual team ie CJ Mosley is every bit the cfb lb Teo is and Milliner is the best db in the country, etc..
This is by far the most talented Nick Saban defense overall.
"You can’t snort a line of coke off a woman’s a&& and not wonder about her hopes and dreams, it’s not gentlemanly."
Our D is as good as 09 was. Last years D was historically great. Next years D will be historically great as well. We are inexperienced this year but still fantastic. Next year will be the most talented D Saban has ever had.
Agree. I would also point out that Pollack tends to overstate things to make his point, e.g. predicting Tennessee would put up over 300 passing yards on us, when really he just was trying to say our secondary was unproven at that point.
I actually agree with Pollack. 2010 had the big names and more talent. This years team has more depth IMO.
EVERYBODAY PANIC!!!!!! We gave up 17 whole points!
Exxxxactly. Hell, as far as talent, Bama may have the most talented defensive player it's had in the Saban era with #26, but he doesn't play. There is talent everywhere. It does make me wonder though... if Vinnie continues to have coverage issues, would one of the athletic young guys like Collins/Geno not already be a better option at Star?
Not popular but he is right IMO. There is not a safety that plays significant snaps with Barrons talent. There is not any combination of LB you can offer me alongside CJ that I wouldnt trade Upshaw and Hightower for. I will take Dre K and Menzie alongside Milliner over Fulton and Belue. LSU scored 6 total points in two regulation games last year with a more experinced OL. They scored 17 and could have been more in one regulation this year. Sorry just facts. As other have stated, we are still the best defense in the country. We are a better offensive team this year. We are the best team in the nation. I do think we have high end talent with little experience waiting to play. I think the future safety combo of Collins and Williams will be more athletic than Saban has had at UA. We are great and will continue to be while Saban is here. However I agree with Pollack.
Our corners have done fine and safeties are good in run support. Lester does a good job, vin and perry got exposed a little bit. Vin had a complete breakdown on the play they hi lighted.
Mett played FAR better than any LSU qb has in years against us. His WR's were well covered. Looked just like the 08 UF game. Where all if those amazingly talented players you mentioned go Tebowed..
Prior to last week this defense was just as impressive as last years, with more turnovers.
Lets see if we get back to the norm, of if we were exposed. My bet is on option 1.
