If people do not want to support the team then that is fine. However, those same people do not need to get on here and demand more. Support is what drives the success of a program. It is what brings in the revenue for better facilities and demands success. I think we need to either get on board with this team and provide support and energy or accept the lack luster performances. Do not cry about a lack of energy on the team when they are playing in front of one of the worst crowds in division 1 basketball while competing for an SEC regular season title. I know we are not going to beat Florida. I get that but we are in the mix. I also understand how bad the SEC is but there are 12 teams that are doing worse than us in conference play so it could be worse for this team.
I didn't watch and probably won't for the rest of the year. This team is boring, fundamentally crap, an just not very good. Quite frankly it stresses me out to watch them as it is terrible basketball. I'll watch other teams or some tv show instead. Fire Grant and I'll start attending again but I'm not driving from bham for that crap.
We would rather have Alabama fans at the game anyway so just sit at home and complain.
Most SEC teams would trade places with us in a heartbeat right now. Roll Tide!
The Dynasty is Here!
Wouldn't do the team any good for you to come anyway. I enjoy watching every game, no matter how we are doing. Do I get pissed off? Hell yea I do, and it frustrates me to no end. But I watch or go to every game possible, and you know why? Because its Alabama. I've always been a fan of the school, and not just football. Unfortunately, the majority of our fans aren't like that. Agree with me or not, the proof is in the attendance. And most of us just want to give excuses as why they don't go. Their is no excuse to attendance like that. I've seen too many supposed "football" schools have their basketball arenas packed out almost every game, even in subpar years.
Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
Good post PC. I'd root for us in an underwater basket weaving competition if we had a team. We don't, do we?
Weak sauce. Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.
You sound like a 4th grader. I went to every home game while I was a student from 01-06. I have been going to a minimum of 5 home games since I've graduated. I've been to the sec tourney nearly every year since 01 skipping only 2 so take your bs comments and shove em.
This is a crappy product, this is a crappy league and this is a crappy team. Sure we are at the top of the conference but that is a lot like winning the special Olympics this year. Grant won't get it done on the level needed to bring back fan support. He won't promote the program and do the things needed to win the fans. He's a boring coach and his team has his mentality.
He's had one moment since he's been here. That was after the Vandy anal rape by the officials. He went ballistic and the following week the fans loved him and showed up for him. Since them we haven't really seen that fire.
You went during the gotfried era and are now complaining about the product? That's funny.
clear to see there are fans in this thread who are part of the problem
I was in school at UA when Coach Bryant hired CM Newton (1968). Our basketball program was pretty bad then. So bad that some students called them the Crimson Clowns. But Coach Newton came in and "coached 'em up" and they began to improve and the fans saw the improvement. Also, Coleman Coliseum was completed about that time. It was certainly a marvelous facility for those times. Coach Newton recruited well and our basketball improved noticeably each year. Anyway, the crowds grew, the enthusiasm grew, etc. etc. Coach Newton really worked. He knew he was competing with football. He really promoted basketball. All this to say that the crowds got better and better and better. As long as Coach Newton was there , Alabama had a first class basketball product. Coach Newton remained at Alabama ten or so years after I graduated but we always had a good product and the crowds were big and supportive. Of course when Coach Newton left about 1980 or so, his assistant Wimp Sanderson was promoted. And Coach Sanderson kept-up what Coach Newton had started... winning... not mention his plaid sports-jackets. Really-and-truly I think Coach Sanderson was more of a personality than Coach Newton, primarily because of Wimp's sideline antics and facial-scowls. Many of you remember Coleman being called the " Plaid Palace". And the crowds were huge.
Fast forward through 3 coaching changes to today. Personally, I really admire Anthony Grant. I want him to succeed. But if I am allowed to be a critic, Coach Grant has been too slow to recruit ' his type of player'. Maybe it's being a little too deliberate, a little too picky... I don't really know. But Coach Grant is a grown man and he knows he's got to win. I just hope that we can show him, primarily by attendence and ethusiasm, that we're behind him... all-the-way.

Apathy due to style of play, weakness of league, and the fact even if by some miracle we went to the tournament you all know we'd be one and done and back where we started.
Gottfried's worst teams were still more athletic and fun to watch than this team. They still couldn't shoot but damn. It's painful watching our guys try to "attack" the rim, especially the big men, and The next mid-range runner that LR knocks down will be the first.
End of rant.
People have short term memories. Anyone pining for the days of yore with Gottfried litteraly don't remember his teams that well. Gottfrieds teams shot terribly and played zero perimater defense. Every team we played would have atleast one player have a career night from beyond the arc and we got blown out of the gym multiple times a year it seemed like. Gottfried also never could win on the road period. His road record has to be one of the worst of any coach to ever coach in the SEC. Gottfried also never had a winning record in the SEC three years in a row. Antony Grant has had a winning record in the SEC every year besides his first. Gottfried might had made the tourney 5 straight years and made it to the Elite 8, but he got bounced early every other year by no name teams we had no business losing to (Kent State when we were a 2 seed anyone?) and the year we did make the elite eight we should have been beat the first round if not for a clutch 3 by Pettway. Gottfried also ruined the career of one of the most talented players to ever dawn the Crimson and White. I also personaly wittnessed the worst home game I have ever wittnessed when we could not even get the ball accross the time line and we got destroyed by a terrible Auburn team at home. I could go on and on about Gottfried but he was the benefactor of one of the worst stretches in Bama football history which allowed more resourses and interest to be poured into basketball and he squandered it because of his ego. I'll take Grant over that guy any day.
I will give Gottfried this, he did a good job recruiting and graduating players.
People talk about how good the wimp days were, but he coached the same way he consistantly had games in the 60s. Whether you like the style of play or not grant has a pretty good win loss record and thats what he is paid to do. Can't believe someone said they would rather score in the 70s and lose dumbest thing Ihave ever read
R.I.P Freddie Parker
Just tired of ignorant people and all of the complaining. They expect us to be Indiana/Duke at basketball when we are better than most of the other SEC teams. I do agree that someone is sounding like a 4th grader though.
I don't expect us to be a power. I also don't expect us to lose at home to Tulane or score less than 50 against one of the worst AU teams in history.
I quit reading at the "this team has no skills" sentence. Untrue statement.
Well then I expect to see no more posts from you the rest of the season relating to Bama basketball.
