Complete hypothetical here. If we beat LSU and A&M wins out (beating us in the process), who wins the west? A&M and Alabama would each have one loss in the division and the aggies would own the head to head. However, their loss to Florida would give them one more conference loss than us. Is this the situation Spurrier complained about last year (meaning we would still be west champs)?
We would be the champs. Division losses only come into play after conference losses. A&M would be eliminated and we would have the head-to-head with LSU.
Ok that's what I thought but I knew someone on here would be able to confirm. I don't see us losing to A&M, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility if we're still too high from the LSU victory and make a few mistakes. Again, very unlikely, but you can't rule anything out.
Also this doesn't really matter but that sounds to me like there's no head to head at all. We'd have one loss and A&M and LSU would each have two. We'd be champs by that fact alone regardless of who beat who.
Why downvotes for this? Are hypotheticals that frowned upon?
unfortunately, this board is full of people who feel their precious time has been wasted if the post to too far below them. +1
Or if the post doesn't assume we'll win every game for the next 100 years and no one else plays football.
Yeah. That's true. I didn't think of that. Anybody who gives you downvotes for posting a question about Alabama on an Alabama message board is pretty silly. I get the feeling they're probably 16 years of age or younger.
Or if a dumb-ass question.
If we have the best record in the West but then lose to Auburn, do they go to ATL since they beat us?
No. But Ole Miss would go cause they played us a good game and beat Vols on the road.
Ah, of course. Thanks.
Maybe because it's kind of strange to think that the standings are based off division losses, because then the cross-division games would be meaningless. It's never been that way and is something I never thought someone would actually not know. Every SEC game counts the same - it's hard to fathom thinking otherwise. I wouldn't downvote you for that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's why others did.
