"It doesn't have the prettiest campus, the best stadium or the most populous recruiting base. But what it does have is an aura, a houndstooth history deep in championships. "Roll Tide" isn't a saying; it's a way of life. You either believe or you don't.
Bama isn't for everybody. Nick Saban has succeeded there because his intensity and expectations somehow exceed those of a fan base that doesn't take L's for an answer.
No athletic department spends more on its football program ($36.9 million in 2011) than Alabama. You are given every tool in the box to win. If you do, you become a coaching icon (and very, very rich), as Saban has become. If you don't, you become an appetizer on Paul Finebaum's radio show."
Um... I like our campus more than most and I'm pretty our stadium is pretty great. Not sure where he gets it from.
He's probably never been there.
On the flip side though, he says "you are given every tool in the box to win."
Meanwhile at Auburn you get a 7/8 wrench, a flat head screwdriver, and a drill with a dead battery missing the charger.
This person has obviously not been to our campus much less inside or stadium.
You forgot duct tape AKA "Auburn Chrome" as I've heard it described.
I think the campus is pretty nice. And I absolutely think the stadium is on par with any other college stadium.
What the hell is this clown talking about????
I've been to UCLA, Florida, FSU, driven past USCw, Miami, Auburn, Udub in Seattle, LSU, and others that I'm not recalling at the moment. I can remove bias from this because a beautiful campus is either one or it's not. I'd say UCLA, Miami and Bama's are my top 3. And it's not close. Gainesville is ok. Tallahassee is a dump. As is the media's gloryhole, South Bend.
And as for stadiums, this idiot needs to get out of the northeast snow and wake the hell up. If you don't know what you are talking about, it's best you not pretend that you do.
Espn has really dropped its level of employees in the past 10 years. Gene wojo and Bill Simmons might be the 2 most glaring examples of idiocy.
I'd love to hear what his idea of "nice stadium" is.
And as for recruiting base, Bama is easily in the top 10 states. And just outside the top 5 IMO. Lord... This irritates me.. Two examples in one week (along with espn's cut n paste job of Mrs Terry)
Bryant-Denny is one of the nicest stadiums in the country. I will accept the "classic argument" of the Big House or The Shoe - but BDS has nicer and more skyboxes and typically much better weather for watching and ENJOYING games. There isnt a college that can rival us in both capacity and up-scale skybox seating. And we're about to showcase more crystal in that thing than all the other schools combined!
If he's ever been to Neyland he should be embarrased to write that. Bryant-Denny is one of the finest facilities in FBS football. The campus is steeped in history. I took my friends son (17 at the time) on a campus tour last year. Showed him the orginal 4 buildings that survived the War Of Northern Aggression. Made an impression on him. Same kid got his acceptance letter from UA last month.
Jeez guys, I don't think the guy's point was that our stadium is ugly. His point is that what makes Alabama a special place is our love for football, the "aura" as he puts it.
"Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself." -Coach Bryant
He's a Tennessee guy...what do you expect
Who in college football has a better stadium? Not just size or aesthetics, but that with modern amenities. Now there are some louder and more historical stadiums.
Yeah, while taking a shot at us at the same time. I've been to as many college campuses as anyone, all of SEC, USC, UCLA, several Ivy league schools, a lot of Big 12, and Big 10 and we're in the top 5 in the esthetic category easily. And our stadium is especially nice. The only stadium I like better is the new Cowboy stadium. So, he obviously hasn't been in T-town before. And I do take offense. Sports Illustrated said the same thing 35 years ago and I still haven't gotten over that.
Vince Lombardi was asked how it felt to have the best football team in the world. He replied, I don't know. We haven't played Alabama yet.
Well, he thinks Green Bay's stadium IS the NICEST in the country, if that says anything for ya...
(In other words, the guy's on crack...)

BDS is one of the nicest stadiums in the country including NFL stadiums.
Not sure why i got down voted, but I guess my Robert Foster threads and 500+ up votes make it irrelevant. Haha!
Thank you guys for the up votes.
Btw, since Theta has posted, I'd like to ask him if he still will not celebrate or recognize our 15th title because of the ATM loss. Not flaming...just wondering if u had a change of heart. We are all entitled to our opinions.

This. Damn you guys are sensitive. Trust me I read his stuff all the time he has huge respect for Bama's tradition and the current program and Saban.
He's just saying a beautiful campus or a super fancy stadium isn't what were known for, not that there's anything wrong with either one.
