Great player, deserved the Heisman, but he's been given too much way too fast. Almost impossible for him to keep his head on straight. Losing 2 Top 10 OL hurts, plus a couple of receivers. I hope Saban and Smart exact Biblical revenge on him next year. Discuss.
aTm will lose 3-4 games next year. Won't catch a soul by surprise.
Lost both their OT's
Have both of them declared for the draft? I thought I remember hearing they may come back. Atleast one of them to play with a family member
I think that it's almost impossible not to take a step back considering how incredible he was this season and that A&M losses a lot of talented offensive players.
That said...the kid has serious serious talent and will still be very good. He is a very smart runner with a great feel for the game but he is also an accurate passer. Most importantly he is a winner...you can just tell.
Not sure, I thought they were Seniors. I could be wrong.
Very good points.
I think he'll have a little bit of a dropoff as teams will have a full year of film on him but I think he'll progress and continue to get better, dude has skills
Remember this thread. Oklahoma beats them in the bowl game.
Every player, regardless of level, has to improve as the go because once there's a book on you - teams know much better how to defend you. We see this at every level of football and baseball. It's even got a name - Sophomore Jinx. Now that there is a full year of film on JM, what he's good at, what he's not...what AandM like to do etc. etc. etc. teams will start playing to those strengths.
What makes him and this type of player so special and unique...is when you take everything away from them, and the play has broken down, he still can make you pay. This, you can't coach, you can't defend completely no matter what you do. Now, you may see teams start to stay in their lanes (front 4) instead of trying to blintz full go forcing Johnny somewhat to stay in the pocket the best they can. Still, he has beaten teams this way as well.
Overall, I can't imagine he has a better year than he did this year. I mean he did just set the all time record in our conference so it would be insane to do this again or better. Most humans come back the second year. Still, the kid baring injury is one heck of a talent. That, won't change, even if his numbers do next year. (It still takes a full team to win in football)....
Nope. I don't see it. OU is soft as Charmin and won't know what hit em. Now I do see TAMU reverting to B12 of old style and giving up a lot of points. TAMU 59 OU 45
Lets hope not. We don't need a big 12 team chirping about beating a SEC team.
Tough to repeat the success he has this year but I don't think he will "crash and burn". Seems some people on here are not to fond of this young mans success. Not sure why.

Matthews and Joeckel are both juniors.
A big 12 number 2 (tied for best conference record) beating a 5th place SEC team shouldn't be a reason to chirp.
True but them in addition to the DE sack leader they have will most likely turn pro.
Obviously it shouldn't be, but it will be for any team outside the SEC to chirp. Especially since they beat us.
AJ's soph jinx ended up ok. Do some of y'all feel the same about Coop? Personally I feel A&M will take a slight step back, but he will still be Johnny Football. From all accounts he seems like a humble young man
Eat clean. Train Hard.
Obviously not every player goes through it. But many do, hence the name. I personally don't think Cooper takes a step back, I only see improvement from him. I mainly posted about that because what you do see sometimes from the QB spot, especially a player who's feet did so much damage for them the first time around is teams doing much better against them in year two. There is now a book on him where this wasn't the case through most of this first year. The book was being put together, tendencies, likes, dislikes...and it forces players to either keep growing, stand pat, or regress. Most think because of what AandM loses overall they will take a step back but as we all have seen so far, Johnny Football may be the type of talent that helps them overcome these other loses? For me that's what makes this game so great - we get to see first hand how it plays out and every now and then we get to see crazy talents do things no book can completely tell his story.
I think some fans, because of all the hype and exposure, are already in some ways looking for a fall from grace if you will. It happens to them all. Funny in a way, we love to see these great things but after some time, many tire of it and just as quick are ready to tear it down I personally enjoy watching him play and am happy the year Tam got all this love happens to fall in their first year in the best football conference in the land. Like another stick it to you Big 12 if you will? (g)
I definitely was impressed with him and thought he deserved the Heisman.
That said, I think Bama will get them next year
I like Johnny Manziel, but I'm not a big fan of Kevin Sumlin. He's traditionally been a bit too pass-happy for my liking. He's tempered that a little this year, but I don't care to see him have tons of success.
Yes rumor has it Jake Matthews may come back to play with his younger brother plus the DE may also come back if I hear different I will post Roll Tide Tide.
Sorry but anybody that comes into T-town and does what he did deserves my respect. I do think we contain him better and get the win in College Station but he will still be tough on the rest of the conference.
If the 3 NFL type players feel they have a chance to win the SEC next year. Then it's not out of the realm of possibility that they come back.
New Member of The 247 Crew!
They have a ton of starting seniors as well. I think there is virtually no chance Joekell comes back as he is clearly the top tackle prospect. Not sure on the two others but I think Moore and Matthews will be high picks.
He's really good. We beat them next year though. He's still probably first team all conference
