A certain stud LB that AU signed 4-5 years ago, Tray Blackmon was almost a carbon copy of Foster physically and in his style of play..huge talent, got way too big headed. They are even from the same town (LaGrange, GA). The kid could not stay out of trouble and never truly developed. Just goes to show what AU does with elite LB talent.
Tray Blackmon couldn't hold Reuben Foster's jock for him. If he can keep his head on straight, the Auburn coaching staff won't have to do a single thing or be responsible for developing anything. He's that good.
With all do respect, Blackmon was a 5 star prospect with the same size, speed and measurables as Foster. The key part of that statement was "if he can keep his head on straight." If Blackmon could have "kept his head on straight," he would be an All-Pro linebacker in the league right now.
Ruben will never reach his full potential at AU and we both know it. They do not develop players at all. The atmosphere there is one of total entitlement.
Around the Columbus/LaGrange area, Tray Blackmon is still the standard to which every other elite defensive athlete is measured in high school. He absolutely compares with Foster. I give Foster the edge but Blackmon was a complete stud.......just 5* from neck down and 1* from neck up. In that sense, yes Foster is beginning to resemble him more and more.
Foster is a good bit bigger than Blackmon was. That said, JC Shurburtt (or one of the other national guys) said in one of the old BOL chats that Blackmon would have been a 6-star if the rankings went that high.
Blackmon was relatively undersized, as SEC LBs go. The barn Staff was really torn between making Blackmon an OLB or Safety. Foster is HUGE, and can move!
Agree with this
Touchy people on the board tonight apparently
I for one am Ruben'd out...Like I said, with the LB class we signed last year "losing" one linebacker is the least of my football worries RTR
Said this to a college coaching friend of mine the day he flipped. His response: you might be right.
Blackmon weighed about 205 coming out of high school. That being said you may have a point emotionally and maturity levels may be similar.
I am with you RLG2069. RF made his decision so let's let him live with it. Apparently he doesn't want to compete with the great LB's that we already have. IMO, RF with as much talent as he has will be a great player for farmville but he will get what's coming when he meets the boys from Title Town!!! RTR Baby
You can have all the potential and talent in the world but if you don't have it between the ears and put in the work. You're average at best. RTR
