I just got offered a position as the DB coach in Kansas but I havent coached ever. They are giving me the freshmen team. So I'm looking for people to talk to and help me with some routines. I played for Jess Lanier when DeMeco Ryans was there. I know the position its that things have changed since then and I want to be the best coach like our own CNS. Any pointers will help. RTR
You've come to the right place for coaching advice....
(g) Seriously, Congrats, especially if that's a field you've wanted to get into. There are many books you can look into that can help and maybe even googling things you think would be of interest/help might be a starting spot?
you have never coached? you need to sit down with a DB coach or DC, bring a pen and paper, and lots of questions. IE: alignment- in cover ,2,3,4,man, 3 roll, 2 trap. stance, footwork, hand placement, eye placement for keys, flip the hips? or speed turn? what drills to teach this? there is a lot to know, but its hard to just type it, it needs to be drawn and explained.
It is a field I have wanted for a long time. I couldnt before cause I was in the Navy now I have nothing but time on my hands. I will look up some books but I was trying to find a way to talk to Kirby about it. I know that is a long shot but I'm shooting to be the best at it. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Like I said Coach21 I played I know most of the basics but I'm sure alot of the things have changed and I want to learn as much as I can. I love football and I most defiantly LOVE Alabama football. I want to give my players the concept and show them what we do in Alabama to develop great talent!!!
There are some coaches that post here from time to time...a couple I know are High School coaches, and maybe even a College asst. of some type??? Maybe they will see the thread and can pm you. Who knows, right...you have to ask to get.
Right!!! Thats why I came to the best cause thats what we have in Alabama!!!
I was a high school head coach for 30+years or so and I will tell you that anytime you are struggling as a new coach the Internet is a great resource. The way DBS are coached has not changed as much as you might think other than leverage techniques.
Yea, I did not mean for that to sound negative. I coach at a 6A school here in Alabama. I could help you, but it is really difficult to do so on the computer. you need to sit down with a coach and a white board. if you have specific questions, post them, maybe I can help.
Well being a freshman coach, any program worth their salt is going to want you to run their stuff.
That being said you need to dive into the thing and learn as much as you can. I do agree with the other posters that it's better to sit down with someone and put pen to paper. The internet has come a long ways though.
I would start here:
Tons of Saban stuff on there. Even some stuff from our new DB coach Greg Brown doing some drills which is the big thing you'll want to get a hold of.
Lot of good knowledge over there.
Ok thank you ethanm...
Ok coach21 I will be looking to you at times. if I have questions.
Thank you deaux68... That is a Big help!!!
