When he is on the backside or trailing a play he loafs so bad.. I remember when he was doing this his junior year. Really frustrating to watch. I have watched him the whole game and he continuously does it. I guess the Patriots dont have a problem with it though. He is good when the play is coming to him. However if he has to chase at all he is just going through the motions.
Played pretty damn well overall tonight. Two TFLs. That tackle of "College Football's best running back of 2009" in the open field was impressive
I agree with that for sure.
Played well tonight. He would NEVER start or play for Bill if he was a loafer. If you want to watch a loafer watch rolando at oakland...oh wait he already got cut.
Sad waste of talent.
Ro just got suspended for 2 games and got reinstated today. Still, sad to see his poor effort on a weekly basis.
Sorry. Maybe it was just wishful thinking. He needs a wake-up call and a one way ticket out of Oakland if he hopes to escape being the biggest disappointment of the saban era at UA. Hurts to watch.
I'm not a football master mind at all, but couldn't he be keeping contain or staying in his gap/lane? What if he jumps out of position to make a tackle, the RB cuts back and there is no one there to make the stop? If someone else is in position to make the stop, then doesn't it make sense that Hightower takes away a cut back option?
Again, I don't know if thats the case, but it makes sense in my homer opinion.
this is what i was thinking
hes just massive so hes not very fast...same with rolando, although i think hightower is a step faster than mcclain and much smarter
Hightower has had a good season and impressed the hell out of Belichik with his work ethic and knowledge. Everyone is entitled to a bad game.
wtf people? let's set the record straight. hightower looked great last night. i was actually surprised by how fast he looked. it stood out. his high IQ showed as well.

Hightower played a whale of a game last night. Bet your bottom dollar that if he was loafing Coach Hoodie would bench him. I agree with the previous poster, he is playing his assignment on the backside. while the SEC is good, the NFL is a whole another level and you can't just fly to the football like you do in college or high school.
NFL Combine: Hightower measured 6'2" 265 lb & ran a 4.68 forty... That was faster than many RB in attendance. Very impressive athlete with off-the-charts football IQ. To see this much playing time as an NFL rookie on one of the League's best franchises is an unreal accomplishment.
dude was second on the team in tackles last night. Couldn't have done too much loafing in holding the Texans to 14 points.
I am a big bama fan and love what Hightower has done for us but anyone who says he wasnt loafing has either never played sports or didnt watch the game. For a period in the second quarter he loafed for about 4 plays in a row. He did make some good plays but he took some off too.

watched the whole game and played football for over 10 years. assuming for argument sake that he took a couple of plays off, i just dont think you can call that "loafing" as described in the OP.

My ten year old and i sat there and watched the game and he asked me why 54 was jogging after the ball. If he noticed it was pretty obvious. Sometimes you can have stats and still not play well.
Well, it looks like me and you and your boy are just going to have to agree to disagree.
on a related note, I have always enjoyed watching MNF and I have watched it since I was a kid. I remember watching Stabler playing for the Saints on a little black and white Tv in my room with the sound off so i wouldnt get busted, but I have to tell you that it has reached a new level of enjoyment now that my own little boy is old enough to watch it with me. RTR my friend!
Not to flame, but stating that your 10 year old noticed it isn't exactly a compelling argument. When I was 10, I told my dad that aliens were real. Unfortunately, that did not make it an accurate statement.
So ten year olds cant tell when someone is jogging? Ok well im a 35 year old ex college athlete and i saw it too. Listen i could really care less. Dude is making a million plus per year on a great team but the fact is i saw it and apparently someone else did too. My son and i watched the game to study JJ Watt and that dude doesnt take any plays off.
I thought it was cool how often Gruden kept gushing over Hightower. He would reference him as the great "Rookie linebacker out of Alabama" or "another stud linebacker from the SEC."
