Three of our last seven losses have come to teams that run a hurry up, no huddle type of offense. There has got to be a way to counteract the speed and effectiveness of an offense like this.
If I were a betting man... I would guess that our coaching staff spends a good deal of time with the staff's of some schools who have had reasonable amount of success against those type of teams.
But the truth of the matter is, much of it is execution... and last night we were not very disciplined in our execution. It's takes a good deal of practice, and I think you will find that we start picking an OOC opponent each year specifically because they run a similar type offense.
The most underrated stat in football...3rd effencency....on both sides of the ball.
I agree and for some reason the past two weeks we have been very bad on 3 rd on both sides of the ball. With Saban I think it will get corrected.
Posted that last night on another message. Three turnovers and the defense not able to get off the field on 3rd down is why we lost. Really good defenses dont allow a team to convert over 60% on 3rd down.
You have to play disciplined and with good fundamentals. Don't make things worse with costly penalties. Wrap up when you tackle. Cover your receivers. Sometimes they're just better and there's really not much you can do about that but our defense was gashed because they failed to do these things. It's a young group overall and will be much better next year, much like 2010 and 2011.
Quite frankly, we should be 8-2 right now and in third place in the SEC West. We made all the same mistakes last week but were bailed out by Les Miles's stupidity. We played a great team today that would be undefeated if they played like this all season. Florida was able to contain Manziel in his first collegiate start and LSU capitalized on his poor decision-making when he started to get cocky and tried to turn everything into a SportsCenter highlight.
LSU and Florida both faked injuries against them. Kinda wish we'd do the same. That's legal just like the hurry up is.
Correct we went from outstanding to terrible here the last two weeks and it killed us. Both games it's a disparity in QB play. Both Mett and especially JM completed passes that AJ would have considered covered and probably not have even attempted (looked for a check down or just thrown away). Neither even sniffed a turnover - one good pass after another. It's amazing that we can play it even close like that.
Yeah. I'm not sure why we didn't do this. If it was pride that's a stupid thing to lose over.
No its not! Pride, Honor, Integrity, Courage...are just a few of the things not worth giving away for a win. That had to be a joke.
Put your best defensive players on the field. Don't sub and gas your guys by running them on and off, and bait the percentages. Guys like Chip Kelley are playing the percentages. You have to let them play into your hands by becoming just as predictive.
"Touch that thang four" - Courtney Upshaw
Honor, integrity, and courage are worthy. Pride is ego. Ego is stupid and the downfall of many otherwise great people.
I agree I did not want us to fake injuries we have too much pride we had a chance but play calling at the six was crazy. We will get it fixed
Also, we never dominated the tempo on offense. We were looking for too many homeruns on early downs which left us in a 3rd and long, and this produces 3 and outs. We should have really focused on short routes and the ground game. Getting 1st downs 3-4yds at a time keeps a fast paced offense on the sidelines. We have gotten away from our identity and we should be 0-2 in the last two games because of that. However, I think nick has a plan so I will wait on another sec championship and see if we can get some help and make it to Miami. Roll Tide!!
We can't get people off of the field bc we can't cover. Outside of Milliner and Belue, we are bad at man coverage. And I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. And we try to play man with our safeties a lot, and we just can't do it. We need Geno, Eddie Williams, and Collins to grow up in a hurry. (And I really mean for next year)
