Let him get that first catch and hit out of the way. If he F's it up you have the full game to recover.
That would loosen him up and get him right into flow.
I HATE HATE HATE throwing on first down. But since that's apparently our new way of doing things, I guess it wouldn't hurt to go to CB.
Definitely not opposed *IF* it's for the purpose of getting CB's feet wet right off the bat. I hope we end up around 60-40 run to pass at the end of the day, though.
Sure wish Fowler was healthy, then I'd just I-formation full back lead, let fowler hit their LB JJ and see what happens.
A quick hitch would probably be the first pass if that approach is used. Screens are typically set up by other plays. I'm for it, btw.
Well, no doubt, we're going to make Jarvis play the run, which he does NOT like to do. If we get Warmack or Steen out to him pulling, it'll be monarch on a Peterbilt. No way that guy's 6-3. That puts him only an inch under Rolando. Ain't now way.
I say we drive the field and score on our first possession, and salvage his redshirt. wishful thinking, right?
Seriously though, my thinking is that Saban/Nuss will only use him if they see that our offense is being handicapped. If UGA is taking Cooper away from our offensive flow, and our other receivers are having trouble in 1-on-1s, then I bet that's when Black goes in. Thoughts?
Maybe, but that's also when the nerves will be at full throttle.
If you let us get into the flow of the game some, first. Let him block a little, hit a guy a time or two, & get hit, before we have to throw his way, it might allow him to get into the rhythym of the game & start to feel more like it's just a football game, after all, so that he can better do his thing.
No real way of knowing though until we see how it plays out.
Just be careful with any kind of expectations for Black. Probably unrealistic to think he does anything but block and spell some guys in the rotation. I wouldn't be looking for him to split the safeties and go to the house.
No way IMO. You don't hold anything back in a game like this.
Lacy until they stop it IMHO.
Based on all our games this year, I can almost guarantee you that doesn't happen.
But it should.
I understand your reasoning, but I disagree. No need to burn a redshirt just to basically have him take up space. If they burn the redshirt it will be with the effort to let him be the playmaker he had shown capable of being.
first play of the game, run the EXACT play from A-day that Black scored on, AJ has his best results and most confidence on deep throws across the middle.

I agree with that... You don't throw a true fresh in a game like this with no experience without some expectation that there is significant upside to that high -risk decision.
Yup. You dont throw a kid in there with a shoulder injury just to block downfield. If thats all we need, play someone else. If CB5 plays its cause the coaches plan to get him the ball and let him do the things that the other back up WRs cannot
Made me laugh. Actually thought about that although I was thinking like a hitch and go or out and up on play action.
they have this procedure called medical clearance before they let a player returning from surgery play so if he's been practicing for 3 weeks+ I don't think you should worry about Black taking a hit
First play run right like always bama brother
First play, biggest non-BCS national college football game since 2009, a freshman that has never touched the field, a dome stadium... what could go wrong?
Reminds me of that promise Tommy Bowden made that RB that he could have the first carry of the season. You all remember that right? The guy that fumbled against us.
Forget that...play action pass deep to Cooper. Let's test them deep all day.
