next year, how long would it take for them to become a relevant program?

I think Garrick McGee is going to turn them into a relevant program. I think McGee was the brains behind what Petrino was doing at Arky, anyways...
IF UAB's admin starts truly supporting them, AND their students REALLY support them AND go to games, they will build up, BUT, I have serious doubts that their whiner students will ever REALLY support their team and show up in REAL numbers. Instead, they'll just sit home on Saturdays, and yet call every station in town and complain about how they don't get any money to do what they need to do and how their stadium sux and they need a new one, etc., etc...

short answer - several lifetimes
UAB fans are so funny when they have a winning season and start talking about how we are "scared" to play them.
We are also too scared to schedule Samford, BSC, Alabama St, Alabama A&M, Troy, South Alabama and Hoover High School. We play Auburn. Isn't that enough for a pity game against an inferior in-state opponent?

I was actually thinking that Garrick McGee would get the Arky job after this season and Petrino would end up at UAB.
The barn ain't scared of A&Mthey play them this year. A&MTHEY might have the best QB in that game
Petrino had a pretty good track record well before McGee became his OC at Arky 2 years ago.
Not saying that McGee isn't a fine coach himself & won't make for an excellent head coach, somewhere down the road, but I'm not saying that he is, either, b/c there's not much of a way of knowing, but I disagree that anybody was the brains behind what xCBP was doing at Arky other than xCBP. I've considered him as potentially the 2nd best coach in the conference since before Urban Meyer resigned from UF.
I won't live to see it.
LOL at your 2nd sentence.
Here is an article about him participating in their practice yesterday. I definitely think he would help win them some games with his offensive playcalling.

McGee is a pretty good coach...but come on, he's not on Petrino's level when it comes to playcalling and Offensive game-planning.
The dude is an Offensive genius...but can't drive a motorcycle.
absolutely no way
however, i am one of the guys that hates a coach with a lot of baggage and woudlnt like to see bama with a great O/bad D, but i honestly would not object to hiring petrino in 5 years or whenever saban retires
About as long as it takes to wreck a motorcycle....
