Chucky, hands down
Let me just start by saying I would like for this to not be a problem for another 5+ years.
So, with that being said, I don't see how Smart will be here after this year. He is just too good a coach to not take a head job somewhere after this season (which I fully expect to be great). I would love for him to have 3-4 years experience before he comes back here as the HC. Just my thoughts.
Patterson I think would be great here, but do we get another coach from TCU? ;)
some of the posts in this thread are nuts...
and as long as I've known Saban...If he's healthy enough to be AD...he will be Coaching...
Maybe he will stick around long enough to pass the job on to Nicholas.

Didn't Malzahn, I mean Cheznip win the NC in his second year? Albeit it is alleged he was fielding a semi-pro team which could take about as many years as the USC debacle to play out so don't think you can breath any easier over the next few years barners.

That's your wish, or that's what you think will happen (or both)? I've been of the opinion that he and Saban have had conversations about this very topic. I believe Saban would be happy for Kirby to take a GOOD HC job, but if the right one doesn't come his w/in a year or two, then there would be an off-the-record agreement for Kirby to be head coach in waiting by 2015 (off record b/c if it is on record then Kirby has to deal with same recruiting limitations as a HC).
Don't know this for fact and haven't had anyone confirm my belief, but I feel this way based on several conversations with coaches at the HS and college level. One former SEC coach told me he thinks such an agreement for Kirby to follow Saban as HC at Bama is already in place.
That's what's pasa!
Kirby Smart will be at Georgia. I would go with a NFL coach like Gruden, Harbough, Jim Haslett, Jim Mora Jr., Steve Mariuchi.
I think Harbaugh is an interesting pick but I feel like he is a Michigan guy that will probably end there eventually. I never really got the whole Jon Gruden thing. Not a good pick IMO. Gary Patterson is an outstanding coach that I think would do really well here. How about Jeff Fisher? He isn't doing anything right now is he? Of course, Bob Stoops would also be a good choice. I personally hope we don't have to worry about this for some time to come. RTR

crimsonstain you made me realize how blessed we are,,,,,,,,,,+1 for ya
After witnessing the team practice with my own eyes, there is no doubt in my mind that Coach Smart needs to be the man to take over. He is a great teacher and motivator. With that said, whoever Saban thinks would be a worthy successor, I'm with him
