With all the offensive skill players we are recruiting, QBs, RBs and WRs along with him saying we may start recruiting smaller faster linebackers are we moving towards a more offensive led team?
I don't think the offense will ever be the leader of team. Defense is what has won the championships so why change and do what everybody else is. I do think we are more explosive than ever though
I think Saban has always gone after the best talent he could get on both sides of the ball. We are just now to the point where the top offensive stars are paying attention though.
I was thinking the same thing. I guess you always have to recreat yourself. Im cool wit it.
When did he say we may start recruiting smaller linebackers? I'm not doubting you at all, I must have just missed that.
No, he is getting ready to go to Cleveland. Haven't you heard?
Seriously, it looks like it. His teams at LSU were loaded on both sides of the ball though. I think that we are seeing Saban's process evolve. I can't wait to see what he does with a senior qb, loaded wide receiver corp, a full house in the backfield, a match up problem at tight end, and a solid offensive line. It could get really ugly for the opposition next year.
I believe one of the mods on here wrote it, maybe TOS. But I think it was Lucky. Also, I bet we see the no huddle as a HUGE part of our offense next year. Maybe even our base.
We are creating true balance. We are about to see teams forced to play us straight up all the time. Pick your poison. Get bludgeoned to death or take it quickly. EIther way you lose.
He has made comments that with offenses changing he will look to add more LBs who can play in space e.g CJ Mosely
It will be more of the same for our opposition. We are one win away from our third national championship in four years. The exciting part is that there are no signs of us letting up anytime soon.
Gotcha. It's not a bad idea thought with more teams putting more emphasis on the passing game and moving to spread offenses, but I wonder how that will affect our run defense. I would think that would put more pressure on our DL when we do play power running teams like LSU, but obviously it could help against teams like A&M.
Trying to move to as balanced a team as possible. Trying to be an unstoppable force of nature. :)
Said it in a press conference. Can't remember which one. Not too long ago.
He's just trying to make our offense as dominant as our defense. It's as simple as that.
We have to be flexible and adapt to different offensive schemes. CNS can't do the same thing year in and year out... there will always be a coach out there that will find a way to beat you.
Teams cannot run on us.. They are starting to figure that out. If you're going to run on alabama.... You have to be more physical/talented than we are. There's just not a team out there that can match up w/ us on the line of scrimmage. They know the only way to win is w/ a up-tempo type offense. Not just the up-tempo style... QB has to play lights out... no mistakes etc.
We must be prepared for teams to start throwing this type of offense at us week in and week out. It is viewed as the blueprint of how to beat alabama.
Personally, I think we should have wiped the floor w/ A&M... but, I think that offense caught us off guard (also had a bit of luck) and quickly got too out of hand. We really tightened up on em, as you all know.

The adding more linebackers like cj is just a great defensive strategy. Imagine 2 moselys on field at same time only having to cover half the field vs Johnny Manzel instead of one mosely running the entire field to push him outta bounds. Then when we play LSU, insert the run stoppers. A new spread offense comes into the SEC and has one year of success. The next year Saban shuts em down. See Urban Meyer
Our offense and defense are in a state of continual change...if you are not improving and adjusting, if you are standing still everyone else is closing the gap. The very wide gap. I expect the expectation is to continually widen the gap we have created.

"You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve"
I think this remains in line with the Saban offensive philosophy of balance and being explosive. He has always recruited great skill position guys. Just look at LSU when he was there. I think it took him longer to create the talent and depth at wr at bama than other positions but it is there now in a big way
