Over half the teams that we play next year will run some form of spread offense. We've gotta get quicker at lb to compensate. Props to Saban for doing what needs to be done.

Wonder if Saban will try to turn opposing spread offenses against themselves by employing HUNH? Spread offenses create problems for their own defensive teams (think Auburn) by putting them back on the field so quickly. If they don't score on a possession, their defense has to take the field again quickly, and become gassed in the second half. In such a case being really deep on defense is a valuable weapon. Imagine the additional stress we place on those teams by going HUNH ourselves and making them double down on their own strategy!
Or even more specifically on the OL, you lose A Smith, A Caldwell, and M Johnson and then you go 14-0 in 2009. OL hasn't been a problem at Bama in over 5 years and I don't expect it to be next year either.

No, but a very small yes too.
We cleaned up on defense last year, so we recruited offense heavy this year. We are not recruiting dual threats and scat backs. Our offensive strategy is only having a few wrinkles thrown in depending on the oc.
It does seem like we have started going after smaller receivers. Guys closer to 6'1/6'2 instead of guys 6'4/6'5. We had several taller, bulkier guys not pan out. But our guys like coop and the Joneses have been solid. Foster is probably 6'2, but not a bulky guy. You don't have to be Julio's size to make a good blocker.
We kind of forget that Saban had a bit of a pass-happy offense when he had players like Matt Mauck, J. Russell, Dwayne Bowe, etc.
The patriots have one of the best defensive minds as a HC but everyone fears tom Brady. It's a lot easier to win knowing you can score a ton of points every game. Great offense will always beat great defense. Same as baseball. Great hitting will beat great pitching.
