Bama stats through 3 games
PPG - 38.7 (2011); 42.7 (2012)
Opp PPG - 6.0 (2011); 4.7 (2012)
Total YPG - 475.7 (2011); 399.0 (2012)
Opp Total YPG - 170 (2011); 210 (2012)
Points scored and points given up is better this year than last year but we are giving up 24% more yards per game while gaining 76 yards less per game in 2012. This team looks unstoppable. Is it? Are we actually better this year?
Mal Moore: "You changed my life when you came here." Saban:"No, Mal, you changed my life. I’m a better coach. I’m a better person"
Way too early to tell IMHO. Look darn good so far though!
no this team hasnt won anything yet but they can be
This years offense is better but the defense is not as good. We will see what happens when they play a good team. This team hasn't played anyone yet. I believe by the end of the year this team could be better than last years.
Absolutley agree! The great thing is the time we have before we hit the tougher games. By LSU we should be READY!
The 2010 team was a statistical improvement on 2009 in many categories, especially offense. The difference was the 3 losses and no Championship. Statistics do not always communicate the better team.
The offense definitely is. The defense is not, and that is no slight to this group, but we might not see a another defense like the 2011 unit in our lifetimes.
rushing offense - 2011 was better because of Trent
passing offense - 2012 better because of AJ and the receivers
rushing defense - pick em
passing defense - 2011 was better because of Dre and Barron.
the great thing is that the rushing offense in 2012 is excellent, and the pass defense in 2012 has improved a lot since MIchigan. If Yeldon continues to grow, Drake continues to grow, Lacy becomes Lacy again and a TRUE lockdown cover corner develops on the side opposite MIlliner, this team could approach 2011 if not surpass(did I really say that ?) it.
So which was better 2009 or 2011....most people would say 2011 but I think 2012 is better than 2009. We are starting to split hairs folks and that is a good thing.
Yes, I think they are.
I think we will see a better defense before Saban retires. Maybe more than one.
I think you guys are victims of the next greatest thing syndrome. I love this group and they are damn good but saying they are as good as arguably the best team in college football history at this point is ludicrous.
The defense, rush or pass, is no where close to last years. I think the offense has a chance to be better than last year but I honestly can't tell yet because we haven't played anyone except for Michigan and no one knows how good they are yet.
I'll take a wait and see approach to this but last years D was one that I don't think we will have a chance to see too many times. Not in our lifetime anyway.
This team hasn't won anything. I love the start to the season but I am not one of the people that wants to talk about how great the team is 3 games into the season. Let's play the season then talk.
Last years defense may be better in overall yards...but no one has talked about turnovers yet?
I said before the year even started this team would be big with turnovers being the key for this defense. I know its only through 3 games but last years D would not let you gain an inch. This defense lets you gain that inch, then takes it away from you.
Turnovers through 3 games -
(Kent State, Penn State, North Texas)
2011 Giveaways- 8
2011 Takeaways - 3
----- Overall -5
(Michigan, Western Kentucky, Arkansas)
2012 Giveaways - 1
2012 Takeaways - 12
---- Overall +11

good point !
and this is part of the reason for less offensive yardage production - short fields !
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
The emphasis on takeaways could be to mask the weakness in overall areas imho. It was pretty easy to tell last year. That any takeaways from that unit was a bonus. Last years defense rarely let teams cross midfield. This years d has bent but broken drives with key takeaways. Will be interesting to see how they respond to a team that takes care of the football. & has an offense that can move the chains without throwing deep.

Here is an interestign break down of 2011 and 2012
Definitely better offensively but not defensively, yet
That could change. I think last years team will end up better but we will come close
Too soon to be having this conversation IMO. That stretch leading up to LSU is brutal.
