is Cornwell a dual threat QB ?
I love all the down votes submitted on this post. It was never meant to raise an argument or in any way state that CNS, was deficient in any way recruiting or otherwise. It was an observation made about a former Alabama high school athlete, that was a highly rated QB, having a good spring game. I further stated that I felt it was too bad we let our recruitment of that nut job Gunner Kiel interfere with his recruitment.
Bottom line, I am an Alec Morris fan think he has potential, would I have rather signed Winston, yes at the time I would have. Half this board melted down when he went FSU.
Pro style/ Dual I always thought of Winston as a pro style capable passer that could also run if needed. And as history has shown he wasn't needed anyway.
But for all you butt hurt fans, that took this as criticism it was not. Only an observation, and the kid did have a good spring game and if he had ended up in Crimson some of you would be stating he is the heir apparent to AJ.
Bateman actually compares very favorably to Winston from an athletic standpoint. Bateman is not listed as "dual threat" for one reason. Winston is a passing QB that happens to be mobile. That is a fact. I have watched him close to 25 times. He would have been a great fit at Bama after some humbling. With that said, I would love to play him and FSU and let us get some Bama hands on him.
granted JW's TD pass was a nice strike but what i gathered from the moment was ....
the white-boy walkon just toasted Joyner on a streak route & the Noles new DC 's defense.
On Alabama: CeCe Jefferson - "It was a bunch of beautiful women..." Reggie Ragland - "oh the females of course..."
And since your in the REC, I'm in the process of putting a shadow government in power over in Honduras and could use some help overthrowing the military. We have a decent weapons cache, but i use a couple drones to take out the power grid. Think you can help?
T.J Yeldon won mvp in a SCRIMMAGE. If Cooper Bateman had the same stats this board would swear he's the next coming of Joe Montana. The guy is good and we are trying to discredit him because he picked another school. Did you hear Coach N.S say on espn that NFL coaches are asking him how to stop the read option. The NFL is beginning to use these types of QB as options on the biggest stage in football. Ignore the fact all you want but he played against great competition. They recruit on a high level. This kid was 45 minutes away from campus and we did go harder after Keil because Winston played baseball. We will always win a ton of games under our coaching staff but look at what our offense looks like under a good QB. Greg was average at best and missed on most of his throws. We won with him because of defense but it was almost ended because teams weren't afraid of him throwing the ball ( the block by Cody to save the game or the wild cat by Ingram to save the S.C game). A.J is proving what our offense looks like with a really good QB.

So you think Cornwell will start for us as a true freshman?
How is he a single threat?
Where ya been SAMP? Haven't heard from you much recently. Glad to see you (and your pics) back.

had to downvote you on this one Dukie. You missed the top 2 reasons he's not at Bama fit. Father was huge FSU guy and already knew where JW was going 2 years previous to the actual commitment plus he prefers baseball and we don't have a baseball program comparable to FSU.
You can throw out good spring numbers and what he did on the mound, but it really doesn't make him an Alabama fit. I still wish the kid the best in his endeavors.
Lol. My post wasn't specifically to argue "why he's Bama fit"......
I think he's a very good football player and he sets a very good example for young African American boys in Alabama that see him as an inspiration because he's excelling in sports but more importantly because he was a great student in the classroom. I know a lot about that because I was one of those kids years ago and I have a family that works with impoverished families.
An African American QB considered by many to be #1 in the nation that also was an "Honor Student".....downvote all you want. I wish he were playing for Alabama.... His home state school.
LMAO at folks downvoting others opinions.
FYI....I upvoted your post even though you missed my point.

I enjoy watching football. Winston can spin it like no other and juke defensive players out of their shoes. I'll enjoy watching him at FSU. RTR!
I love the mis-information in this thread about dad being such a long time FSU fan and sending him there....
It was more his mother' s doing.
I know all the "in the know" guys will argue, but I've known the family for over 20 years,,, and I remember Jboo being a base path terror at 5 years old.
As for the Bama issue,, hey, wish him well... FSU is always home of wonderful talent and falls short.
Bama will be just fine.

You think Sims starts next year over Morris or Bateman?
This post was edited by foteen 12 months ago
I wouldn't rule it out if his passing continues to progress. I don't think CNS would be willing to totally revamp his offense to run Sims' package from last year 100% of the time.
But it sounds like Sims is becoming more capable at pocket passing. Make the same level of progress next year.. Then yeah, he'll have every opportunity to win the job
I agree he will have every opportunity to win the job, but I think Morris or Bateman starts.

How can you say he wasn't a fit for us. The coaches always design plays around our talent. This kid appears to have NFL talent per ( Trent Dilfer) who played in the league and tutor young NFL QB's. Winston was not going two years previous. his junior year he was all Bama and he was trying to get all the in-state talent to come with him but things changed. Some posters thought T.J Yeldon wasn't a fit because he was to tall and Trent and Ingram were short and muscular. Coach N.S later on in Winstons' recruitment, starter to recruit this kid personally. He stood on the sidelines of this kids game so if this kid wasn't a fit then why did the greatest college football coach in America recruit him personally.
This is some high comedy...
1. Winston was not slow played...In fact the day Nuss was hired CNS sent Pruitt to Hueytown with Nuss and Lance to make one last run at Jayboo...Sal had dropped the ball
2. Have know the family for a long time and Jayboo was a big Bama lean till he went to the Elite 11. Ant Winston (Dad) met with some baseball agents while in Cali and they convinced him if he did not get drafted high enough out of HS to send him to a college with a great baseball program.
3. We have two dual threat QB's on the roster right now...No offense to any of the services, but Bateman ran a 4.58 40 at the Opening and is an elite athlete...At 6'2" if he gets some more size on him Nuss will use him like he did Jake Locker at Wash.
I do have one question for Silver Mountain....Do you get all this inside info on the program hearing Eli Gold and Chris Stewart speak at the REC meetings ?

Well, now we know who at least one of the culprits are who downvote solely based on differing opinions.
