playing for five national championships in a row hinging on a few plays here and there.
2008- Bama Undefeated going into the SEC Championship Game against Gators. We were ahead late Florida driving late 3rd down on about the 50. Florida runs sweep Hightower chases it down for a loss, however gets a facemask. Gators keep drive alive and score to take lead. If we make them punt maybe win then play for it in 2008.
2010- First of all how sick was this team in terms of talent. Bad loss to South Carolina, However if we hold on late against LSU and Auburn late in the game and beat Carolina in Sec Champ Game rematch we play for it again.
pretty impressive we were that close to playing for the big one five years in a row rtr.
2010 may be a bit of a stretch, but I could 2008 happening.
YEP - and to me that shows how no matter the team, no matter the circumstances....winning it all is the toughest thing to do in sport. So many things have to go your way, right for you, and you have to be ready to take advantage of those breaks when they come. Even if all this works out for you - every man has to be motivated to win as if they had no other option in life (that's maybe the hardest to do over and over again). Human nature is to let down a bit after reaching the mountain top.
We know already if AJ does indeed return next season...we have the potential to be better next year than we are overall this year. Everyone will be one more year into our system. Another year of experience. The defense always come together their second year (as a group) starting than in the first for most. Yes, we have to replace a few spots, but nothing like the previous year. The offense, has the potential to be so potent as long as our Oline comes together. YET.....will the hunger be there? After potentially winning two BCS Championships in a row and making up for the SEC Title lost last year? We have the best coach in America for keeping our guys hungry to win....but this is still young men who keeping the type of hunger it will take with the target we should have on us next year (we thought this years was big...just wait) (g). ???? That we can never measure on paper or analyze by talent???
Vince Lombardi was asked how it felt to have the best football team in the world. He replied, I don't know. We haven't played Alabama yet.
2010, we were still in it after South Carolina. A few plays at LSU and a few at home against AU and it's pretty easy to see as well.
Mal Moore needs a statue.
In hindsight the way things turned out the lsu game in 07 was when we got eliminated that year. Coach is awesome, we have been relevant headed into the end of October every year he's been here and I don't see it changing.
We've been ranked #1 in the AP every year since 2008.
Still, had we made the game, I just don't see us beating Oklahoma in 2008. Barron and Johnson weren't ready for primetime, and the few times we had to put 5 or 6 DBs on the field it really showed (UGA's partial comeback, UK partial comeback, Utah). I don't think we could have handled Oklahoma's ultra-potent passing game that year. So, I'm actually kind of glad UF went and added to the SEC NC streak.
