I read that UK was already in ttown talking to Kirby. Any truth to this? I wouldn't be surprised if they were.
Tickets on the way..
Was reported by Jox. I think he can do better. Somebody like Houston Nutt would end up there.
I feel like Kirby has turned down better jobs than Kentucky in past years. I can't see him jumping to join a team that is a cellar dweller.
They only paid Joker $1.7 million if I'm not mistaken. That isn't going to get it done, and they're not about to unload a bunch of money on a football coach when coach Cal wants basketball upgrades.
Might as well swing for the fences on your first swing.
he will be a head coach one day, but it won't be to coach Kentucky in Football
Thanks brother. When did they go out? Today?
I could see him going to Kentucky. It's still an SEC job. However, it's the worst SEC job right now. I think Kentucky should go after Fulmer. I know, he's the antichrist on this board. But, he WAS a pretty damn good coach. Crappy individual, but I digress...
That KY job will just be really hard for a first time coach.
Yeah I'm a little lame.
Figured they go after Petrino hard
Talk about a home run
Someone mentioned the possibility of Ga Tech going after Kirby. I think that's an interesting thought and one that might end up being true. I also think Kirby won't take the Arky, barn, or Kentucky jobs. I could see him contemplating taking the Tenn job but I see him going out of the SEC ultimately.
petrino is not an option.
I am way more concerned about GT for Kirby than Kentucky.
Not sure where it came from, but I have read this several places also, including Mark Schlabach's column on ESPN. Chef has good sources of his own as well.
It never hurts to practice your interviewing skills.
I think it is foolish to assume Kirby wouldn't take the barn job. If Auburn, an upper mid level SEC program stocked with good talent just ready for some good coaching, offers you your first head coaching gig, you take it.
maybe at Kentucky for basketball then?
To go head to head against your mentor, particularly in recruiting??? I can see him taking Arky, UT or an ACC job. No the barn.
....also, if he cuts his teeth somewhere else, in 6 pr 7 years he can have hte Bama job. If he went to Auburn, no chance of that ever.
We know Kirby is on the universal short list and we're gonna lose him sooner, rather than later. I'd much rather he was somewhere like GT than UT or Arky. Sure, he's a GA guy and might threaten our recruiting over there a bit...BUT he'd also be in the south, recruiting the south, and honing his head coaching skills in an inferior conference. If he's successful then his ol' mentor might just come calling in a few years. Just an idealistic thought.

I'm not doubting his knowledge. Just really interested in the reasoning.

pr nightmare, his history, his actions, and the feeling that he hasn't changed.
Dont assume coaches are as small minded as typical fans. These guys are professionals. Saban is going head to head with an ever growing list of former protege's every year. I'd imagine playing the barn is just another team to Saban.
