I haven't seen it posted but we lost Dave Sington last weekend. Dave played for Bear Bryant's first Bama team in 1958. I got to know him pretty well over the last 15 years or so and he always had great stories to tell and a good analysis of the current team's players and abilities. He said the Junction Boys had nothing on Bryant's early Bama teams. Practices were so brutal that the players elected him to talk to coach to lighten up a little because they were worn out during the games. Said it scared the hell out of him but he did it anyway. CPB told him to get the hell out of the office but he did lighten up the next Thursday and Dave became an instant hero to all the players. You want to talk about attrition? Dave said there were 115 players in his signing class but only 6 were still there in 1958 and only 2 played (Dave was one of the 2). I'm very saddened by losing my friend but glad to have known him.

He was REC president in Huntsville for many years. Wonderful gentleman. Best wishes for his family.
