COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A man has been ordered to spend five years in prison for his role in a fight that killed a man outside Williams-Brice Stadium following a South Carolina football game.
A jury on Tuesday found 27-year-old Curtis Simms guilty of breach of peace, but not guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Simms was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the judge suspended five years as long as Simms completes three years of probation and takes anger management classes.
Witnesses testified Simms and 20-year-old Allen Gasque were both drunk in October 2010 when they got out of the vehicles they were in and began fighting in heavy traffic after the South Carolina-Alabama football game.
Authorities say a punch from Simms knocked Gasque to the ground, and he was run over and killed.

I was a block away when that happened. I was with my boss that is based in Columbia, and I was getting heckled/jeered to a frightening extent on the walk back to my truck with my boss. I mean, I could see veins popping out of USC fans' necks when they were screaming/cursing at me. I felt terrible that my boss felt obligated to walk with me...Horrible situation!
Wait nevermind. Read again the full ruling.

Sorry Chris, I didn't see this before i posted my thread on the subject.
Me too. I was sober and trying to get out of dodge as fast as possible, but i still almost got in a few fights. One kid was absolutely screaming in my face while challenging the group i was with. We just laughed at him.
I will never again go to a game in that cesspool...had two of three kids with me and I was truly afraid for their safety. Not all their fans are like that because I have several good ones, but they have more than their fair share of extremists.
"You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve"
Sounds a little harsh to me if they both got out wanting to fight. Hell you can be drunk and hit somebody with your car and only get a year or two.
Worse road game by far I've ever been too. By far. Had bottles thrown at us, and one guy spit at me. Had no idea it was going to be like that. Terrible experience and will never go back.
Wow didn't know about this. We left with 5 minutes left in the game. Had no desire to stay any longer in that city. Town full of trash.
I could not agree more. Me and my wife are traveling the sec and wanted to see all the stadiums/campuses. We were there in 2010 when we lost and being ranked #1. Those fans were freaking awful to us. The stadium is off campus and it's just a dump around it. Their fan base was fairly young but mostly all drunk. Never seen folks carry around cases of bud light and drink it right out of the hot carton. I enjoyed the area(visited Charleston) but that was it. Worst experience we've had. I've also been to LSU and Auburn and they were better no doubt.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.
Also to add to my rant they play Sandstorm WAY too much. I hate that song now.
we jumped in the first cab we could find after the game, thinking we could get out quick, but the freakin' cab driver just sat there listening to the post game and going "I don't believe it...I just don't believe it". "You guys were #1---I can't believe it"....over and over and over.
We FINALLY persuaded him to put it into "D" and get us the hell out of there. Worst game experience I've had...

I went to that game because it was the only SEC stadium at the time that I had not been to. It was a truly miserable day. On top of the loss, the young fans were simply obnoxious and violent. I have been to more Alabama vs. Auburn games than I can count and I never have been as certain that I was going to get beat up as I was after that game. I will never go back for another game there.
Many fanbases get talked about on here as being the worst. LSU, barners, UGA, etc. In my opinion it's USCe. I have been to many Bama/USCe games all at Bryant-Denny and Gamecock fans have been absolutely horrible everytime.
Walking back from the stadium to the buses after the game was like walking the plank. USCe fans lined the streets to yell obscenities to all the visiting Bama fans.
Will never go back to that rinky dink stadium.
Agree with everyone's posts. USCe fans are the most classless, trashiest, and sorriest fans in the SEC.
Me and my son got cussed and yelled at all the way to our car. But I took it in stride. I still say LSU fans are the worst.

It's the worst away game to go to in the SEC. Nobody goes to it anymore.
