Another night at the office for Mark a road loss with a very good team to an unranked opponent. Those people on Tobacco Road know their Hoops he will grow old fast!
I don't think anyone associated with Bama should be pointing any fingers right now.
THIS...I'll never understand why our fanbase feels the need to bash former players and/or coaches who have nothing to do with our programs anymore....Shula & Gottfried in particular.
I don't do it but its just the nature of sports and sports fans. I think most people aren't really attacking the coach, but more likely rubbing it in to the crowd that always wants to keep the coach we have. Just my opinion.
anyone know how much his contract with state pays and length of contract? thanks
They pay him about $2 million per year for seven total years (five after this one). He initially had a five-year deal, but it extended two years automatically when he made the NCAA tourney his first year.
Agree on Shula, but Gottfried is a piece of trash. I have met him several times, I doubt I've ever met a bigger jerk.
Because they both sucked and drove our program backwards because of their incompetence. It's not difficult to understand
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS x 10000000000000000000000000000000000000
So, this is the definition of driving our program backwards:
Mark Gottfried served as the Crimson Tide's head coach from the 1998-1999 season until mid-way through the 2008-2009 season. Gottfried played 3 seasons of basketball at Alabama under Wimp Sanderson, and the Crimson Tide advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in each of those seasons. He was hired by Alabama in March 1998 after coaching at Murray State for three seasons.
The Crimson Tide achieved the highest pinnacle ever for the school in both the NCAA Championship Tournament and the Associated Press Poll reaching the Elite Eight in the tournament in 2004 and reaching the No. 1 spot in the nation in the AP poll in 2002, both under Mark Gottfried's command.
Gottfried led the Tide to its only SEC Championship under his watch during the 2001-2002 season, although the team never won a conference tournament championship during his tenure. For his efforts in 2002, Gottfried was named SEC Coach of the Year by both the Associated Press and his fellow Southeastern Conference coaches. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment as coach at Alabama was leading the Crimson Tide to five consecutive NCAA tournaments from 2002–2006, another first for the school that occurred under his watch. Gottfried resigned on January 26, 2009 with 11 regular season games still remaining on the team's schedule.
I wouldn't bash CMG. Instead, I would like to thank him for being a Bama player and coach.
BUT....I would just like to say that I'm glad we have CAG. IMHO, CAG does a better job with our players when we go on the road. I think (and have said many times) that we will have a very successful program if we give CAG the time that we gave CMG.
The Dynasty is Here!
EXACTLY...and lest we forget Shula came in WITHOUT a spring practice, on probation, in the wake of the Price Scandle...not to mention former Bama QB with 2 of the programs most memorable wins (Van Tiffin Iron Bowl, comeback in Athens)...but he "sucked" and was "incompetent."
Why exactly do we root against Mike Shula and Mark Gottfried again? Didn't they both play and coach for our university? Didn't our university hire each as coaches? Should they apologize to us that they are not Nick Saban or Tom Izzo? I just don't get the hate and disrespect.......one of the real eye opening recurring conversations on our message board.
