Rex Ryan has yet to make an announcement on his starting quarterback, but the early word out of One Jets Drive on Tuesday is that the Jets' coach is leaning heavily toward benching Mark Sanchez in favor of Greg McElroy.
This would be big news on two fronts: This would mark the first time in Sanchez's career that he has lost his job, raising questions about his future. It also would mean Ryan has bypassed Tim Tebow, who has been the No. 2 quarterback all season.

RT @JasonLaCanfora: The Jets have informed their QBs that Greg McElroy is starting Sunday.

would love to see mcelroy get the spot but it wotn matter long term. he just is not going to be looked at as a starter. they will bring in somebody in the offseason to be the starter
Saw Rappaport tweet about this. Would love to see GMac show off what he can do. If nothing else it may help him cement his job as back up for next year or catch on somewhere else.
Yay, after the season is already over and 2 games don't matter anymore. Out of the playoff hunt, thanks for the bone. I hope GM crushes it so!!! God I hope he just crushes it!

Realistically speaking, bad situation to make your first start. Anything other than complete 180 won't be considered acceptable. That team has a lot of issues.

If he can show out he could solidify a backup spot
I've never understand why gmacs best is still considered him just competing for #2. For some reason this has been the mindset about gmac in the pros from day one. IMO If he can show out then he should solidify a real chance at being the starter next season.
"Nobody makes me bleed my own blood, nobody!"
I don't understand the jets. We were there last night and GMAC was in sweats not even dressed. Then he goes to starter. I guess if they didn't dress tebow the crowd would revolt.
There were tebow jerseys everywhere. It was crazy.
Gave GMAC a big roll tide and he smiled from ear to ear. Then a group started chanting "roll tide. Roll tide. Roll tide!" was pretty cool
His arm strength is very limited, and he isn´t mobile. While he is accurate, he doesn´t have elite accuracy. If you don´t have elite arm strength, you need to have elite accuracy.
You can't tell me that if Cousins can come in and go 26-37, 329 yds, 2 tds that GMac can't do the same granted that was against the Browns but still. In my opinion GMac is just as good if not much better of a QB than Cousins...
I agree with you. I think that both Cousins and GMac are solid backups. They are both probably between #35 and #45 QBs in the league by my estimation. Honestly, I hope I´m wrong. I hope GMac throws 4 TDs next game and becomes the next Peyton Manning. I just don´t think it´ll happen though.
Well it's about time.
Based on college status and statistics alone, who would have ever thought Tebow would be backing up G-Mac? Interesting to say the least.

I was pumped about starting the Chargers defense against the Jets in my fantasy football championship game, now I'm not so sure. McElroy HAS to be an upgrade from Sanchez at qb.
Not a great situation but it can't get any worse. Sanchez is offering just horrible QB play.
Sorry but his arm strength is better than Chad Penningtons ever was and he's just as mobile as half the starting QB's in the league. Coming out of college, Sanchez was considered to have many of the attributes you feel Greg is missing and we see how that turned out didn't we. Greg may not be great at anything but he's good at a lot and very smart. No one on this board can say he "is this or isn't that" until he's given a chance to show it.
