Huh... LSU, Arkansas and Auburn are getting better... Oh I know, you've been drinking that USCe, UGA, and UF kool aid!

Geno Smith would disagree
If you are a DT from 92 that your handle suggests then you know that in football there is a lot of give and take. Yes long balls are low percentage but IMO when teams are overloading to stop the run then you must show the willingness to burn man to man coverage. We were good enough to beat Ole Miss running into the teeth of their defense but IMO it could have been done a lot easier. I was watching on TV so i could not see the back end of UM's defense but the backers were coming almost every play and at least one safety was in the box consistently.
Do we need to make wholesale changes? Absolutely not but that game was not a good performance in execution or playcalling.
Even better man... You do realize that is closer to you than anyone else. About to kiss your computer cause it allows you to be a badass without anyone actually knowing the truth... Damn I got sucked in. I knew better than that.
We threw deep. 10 missed a wide open Calloway.
You take Geno Smith & that offense, then. I'll take ours.
Bottom line, this is OUR identity. We play smart, we take what opponents give us and we control the clock. We will NEVER light up the southern skies with bombs and hail marys unless that is what the defense gives us. We will ALWAYS wear down our oppenents and attempt to dominate the LOS. It may take 3 quarters, but it has worked through 2 MNC and that recipe will never change. We have lost what? 5 guys this season, we are young on defense, young at receiver and still avg over 30 a game and give up about 7 a game. Sucks to be Bama....SMH
Haha no thanks, just pointing out that he's had tremendous success throwing downfield against practically no defense whatsoever. I think they'll get crushed by Texas this week, but give the man his due - he's achieving completion % figures on downfield throws that would be impressive in a pass skeleton drill (which is, again, basically what he's faced).
Thanks for missing my point intentionally. One missed deep ball does not constitute attacking a defense thats in man to man coverage. I'm not advocating flinging it downfield every play in fact I despise these no defense basketball on grass games the talking heads love to talk about.
I have not gone back and watched the tape and for all I know Ole Siss had us covered well downfield but one deep ball in the 3rd Qtr is not what I mean about attacking corners in M2M coverage. All it takes is a couple of plays and the defense has to play more honest and not stunting and blitzing like they did on nearly every play.
Not being happy with a sloppy subpar performance does not make one a "debbie downer". If so then Debbie Downer number 1 this week would be one Nick Saban.
You want Nick's number, so YOU can coach HIM up?
Yeah why don't you shoot that to me there champ.
Several quick hits...
I don't think we need to throw the deep ball 18x. We should have (and had been up until Saturday - our offense had been great) thrown the ball downfield more. I'm not even talking deep ball, just a 10, 15 yard pass instead of throwing a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 8.
The bottomline is our offense did not play it's best game Saturday. Texas put up almost 700 yards on Ole Miss and scored 66 points. Our offense score 26 and had 305 yards. Ole Miss is good, but not THAT good. And no way they improved THAT much in two weeks. We will play teams much better than Ole Miss and if they can cause our offense to do that, then imagine what other teams will do. Sorry, I just don't buy it. We are much better on offense than we showed Saturday. AJ can and has thrown downfield (for some reason he looked tenative Saturday on the few plays that looked to be throws downfield).
Finally, why is it when fans speak of things other than sunshine and rainbows they are labeled a Bammer Gump, Barner, Debbie Downer, etc.? That's so 3rd grade...

Bama is doing just fine but still would expect them to do better ( on offense) with such a HUGE mismatch advantage of talent & coaching + home field.
Good message. I am "very thankful" for these times at BAMA. It is not too far in my memory having to suffer through Dubose, the highs and lows of Fran and then Shula (can you say Dooley at UT all over again). I can't remember in my lifetime of watching BAMA the success that we are now experiencing. And I know it will NOT last forever. I cherish it!
But it is a game! I am a fan. And without fans, there wouldn't be a game. Fans are allowed to have their opinions. You have some great points above, but those games where we were not getting the push from our OLINE were against opponents where we "should be" getting push. We all saw what happened in 2010 and NO ONE that is a fan wants to see a repeat of that.
That is why Saban got so angry before the 2nd game! He has the same concerns. The OLINE has amazing talent but they need to take the opponents more seriously in my opinion and not have to be woken up later in a game to get motivated. Also I totally understand that we don't want to show all of our packages to opposing defenses we are going to play, but we should be "less" conservative on play calling and not be so predictable. Getting ahead in a game early will go a long way to cutting down on the potential for injuries as well and it sure won't hurt with recruiting skill position players in the future. The fans, the media and the recruits like pizzaz so we should give them some.
I absolutely love Saban and company and it is such a great time to be a BAMA fan! Maybe I am being greedy and you are right! But I would sure love to see us CRUSH every team on the schedule early and get in the head of our opponents before we even step on the field to play them! ROLL TIDE.

Good points Ghost Tide. I was very frustrated at the number of times we threw on third and long 3-4 yards short of the down marker. We haven't gotten very conservative on play calling and I am guessing that is to keep the opponents from seeing what we can do, but there needs to be a certain amount of "doing those plays" that needs to happen in games to make us effective at it later on. Also getting ahead early will 'only' mentally break down the opponent and make them try less as the game wears on and thus decrease the need to play first teamers as long, thus decreasing the opportunity for injury to them.
Actually your wrong. If we had stayed with that game plan we would have had another close game with LSU in the NC game last year. But we took the lid off "some" and won the game with gutsy play calling and great execution! Roll Tide
No problem with some basic criticism, but too many people get on here and go all gloom and doom bc we didn't beat them 52-0. There ARE far too many Billy Bammer Gumps on here with outrageous expectations. It's ridiculous.
Did you just "champ" me?
Sure thing, sport - I'll do that!
Roll Tide, brother - everyone's entitled to their opinions! Just trying to help people understand we're not freakin' doomed bc we didn't hang half-a-hundy on Ole Miss.
I agree, that's going too far. Of course I'll take 52-0 every time we can get it, but I'm not hung up on score. How we play, execute, coach, etc. is more important to me. Even lopsided scores can be misleading. We might win 28-0, but we might have had 2 pick 6's and 2 punt returns for TD while our offense didn't do anything - then I'm concerned (happy for defense and special teams, but worried about the offense).
I unfortunately sat next to the grand poobah homer Saturday night in BDS...all he did was bellyache the whole game. Start of 4Q I'd had enough and just looked at him and said... really? If you don't like the product that's being fielded these days then why don't you just leave.
He went on to talk about his donation and his right to complain; and I said again do something about it if you aren't happy...he said what the hell do you mean? I said leave or stand up and positively support the school you donate money to that is head and shoulders superior to any other program out there...well I have the right to complain if I want to...I said you do but what is there to complain about we are up by 3 scores and have trailed in games this season for a total of 15 seconds...well I deserve more...I said, no you don't deserve anymore than the ticket you received for your donation, your team deserves support.
He just shut up at this point and sulked for the next 15 minutes and got up and left with about 5 minutes left on the clock...his surrounding seat mates told me thanks that he needed to hear that, and hoped I was going to be in those seats more often...
