There are other guys out there that do the same thing. Tommy Moffett worked with Saban at LSU. If we lost SC would you feel better if we got an equally talented coach? I would. I might have the name wrong so dont blister me if I do.
One more thing I'm quite sure of. CNS will leave (retire) one day and we'll have to find a replacement for him too.
It's my understanding that once Saban had accepted the Alabama job, he offered Scott Cochran the S&C job early on - as soon as Tommy Moffett had passed on the job offer.
I like your closing remark. It's always tough to lose someone good, but nobody is irreplaceable. I anticipate Nick will stay here perhaps as long as 10-more years. Whenever he's ready to hang it up, he'll be able to pick and choose from the long line of strong candidates who will want to succeed him. We'll be fine.
My sources tell me that if Kirby goes he will take Saban with him.....
Saban has had a top notch strength and conditioning program everywhere he has been. If Coach Cochrarn leaves one day with Kirby, I have no doubt Saban will make another terrific hire for a strength coach to replace him and I don't think there will be any drop off in our strength and conditioning program.
Enjoying the process. RTR!
I thought this was common knowledge and even posted the same thing this morning on here and tBB. I think I was the first to bring it up and not sure why people are saying it was never explained; it was. Besides, no one ever said he would leave. they were speculating that he very well could because of their relationship and desire to work together. Not sure why this is still a topic 12+ hours later.
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
Moffitt isn't going anywhere. If he doesn't retire at LSU, the only other school I could see him going to is to the Vols since he's from Tennessee.
If Cochran does leave (and I really never want to see that happen), 4 guys I wouldn't mind getting the job:
Rusty Whitt, current ULL S&C coach
Cal Dietz, Minnesota S&C coach
Ron McKeefery, who was at UT though I'm not sure if he's staying now that Dooley is out
Eric Ciano, Buffalo Bills & formerly at GaTech
Thing I've learned from this thread is that Kirby Smart has a lot of best friends.
Thanks SaBear for making my point. I love SC. He's special. But there are others out there like the ones you mentioned.
+1 to you. Thanks.
There was a time when Kirby planned to go be Muschamp's DC whenever he got a head job somewhere (Texas at the time) because they've been best friends for a long time. Obviously when Muschamp went to Florida that didn't pan out. Sometimes, things like that sound great but when it comes down to it the job security/elite level provided by staying at a place like Alabama wins out.
And Gruden to Ucheat was a "done" deal, Peterson to Arky was final, while Smart took the Barn job last night.
I think it would be really disrepectful to Alabama for Kirby to take anyone with him from our program by offering them a position when he leaves. I don't think he would because I do not think he is built that way. He would go get his own team of coaches without "shoplifting".
