A friend of my In-laws is a huge trash talking ND fan. Always putting down Alabama and the whole south for that matter. He has decited to start trash talking about how Bama shouldn't claim our Championship. Here is his Facbook post about it. Help me shut this guy up, PLEASE !!!!
The stories behind Alabama's fabricated national championships, for anyone who's curious.
It's always been a running joke about how Alabama's dubious claims to national championships. But chances are, the reality of those claims is even more ridiculous than what you imagine.
While most schools claim only consensus national championship years, Alabama is the only major program to claim multiple titles in years in which another school received consensus or near-consensus national championship consideration. The Alabama media guide currently claims 14 titles, including the years 1930, 1934, 1941, 1964 and 1973. Let's have a look at these particular seasons, shall we?
In 1930 Notre Dame was the consensus #1 in all major polls. The end.
In 1941 Minnesota was the consensus #1 and had an 8-0 record, while Alabama was 9-2 and finished #20 in the AP poll. I really don't get this one at all.
In 1934 Minnesota was not just a consensus #1 and 8-0, but in the first year of an historical national championship "three-peat" in which they would compile a 23-1 record. These teams are widely regarded as one of the great collegiate football dynasties of the first half of the 20th century, but apparently not in the Alabama media guide.
In 1964 Alabama ended the season with an Orange Bowl loss to Texas, but for whatever reason the AP poll was conducting a one-year trial run of giving the trophy before the bowls and so gifted Alabama the title even though #2 Arkansas won their bowl game and finished a perfect 10-0.
1973 was of course the year of Bear Bryant's legendary Sugar Bowl loss to Ara and the real '73 national champions, although the UPI was still two years away from giving out its trophy after the bowl games, and so Bama got another cheapie.
You will hear the media claim anywhere from 12 to 14 national championships for Alabama over the next month--the actual number is nine--while Notre Dame officially claims 11. Realize that the NCAA officially credits the Irish for 13, and if ND applied the same litmus test that Alabama does, they could claim 21 national championships. Heck, if they applied the '73 standard, the Irish already are this year's champion.
Bear Bryant is on record saying, "If a laundromat in Tuscaloosa wants to pick Alabama No. 1, we'll claim it."
GO IRISH beat the Updykes! #NDNATION #1
This probably would make him really mad
Sounds like he's prepping his argument for after his team gets trashed in Miami. Sounds like he's more angry at the rules...
Send him this. From what I have read whoever this player is will be playing in January.
Last week, the National Catholic Reporter published a lengthy piece on reported sexual assaults at Notre Dame. Its fulcrum is the case involving Lizzy Seeberg, a 19-year-old freshman at nearby St. Marys College who committed suicide in September 2010, just 10 days after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a Notre Dame football player. That case led the civil rights office of the U.S. Department of Education to launch a seven-month investigation of Notre Dame that last summer resulted in a settlement agreement.

As far as '64 and '73, that's just the way it was done.
And, how many NC's that ND claims come after a season where they did NOT play in a bowl game at all?
They didn't start bowling until around 1970.
They don't play in a conference. This year, they would be about fifth or sixth in the SEC.
They don't have anything on us.
No NC is valid if the team did mot play in a bowl game that year. Period. That should shut his pie hole!
Tell him thanks for caring so much about how many titles we claim. It's nice to know we're on his mind so much.
His ridiculous diatribe screams of tremendous butthurt.
We are both traditional powers that take some liberties here and there in pumping up our programs, but if you really want to shut him up I suggest you read parts of "Bowls, Polls, and Tattered Souls" by Stewart Mandel.
Goes into a lot of details about how they became famous when Knute Rockne was such a liar and cheat as coach. Hired sports editors to ref games, had MNC's retroactively awarded, and lied to the team all the time to motivate (Win One for the Gipper speech is a complete sham, he never spoke to George Gipp, he of alcoholic fame). Also recaps their holier than thou routine that only applies when they are winning (Lou Holtz era).
Book as a whole is dated now but really a good read. Lots of general historical content.

Just ask him when the last time they won a national title. And remind him that Lou Holtz had the school lower the admission standards to get the QB in the school
a ND fan is the last person to debate pre AP championships...their early ones are like our early ones. Things were done differently, if you won a majority of polls but not the main polls of the day, who cares. You could probably go back in 50 years and say the BCS doesn count because there was no playoff...its all in the eyes of the era of time it was won in, IMO
Don't let him get under your skin. Before every bama game the opposing team has some that start this argument based off of their gossip and "logical conclusions" in which they represent as known facts. He states that the ncaa "officially" recognizes championships. The ncaa doesnt recognize national championships. He is full of leprechaun sh** .
it is obvious he is pointing out his interpretation of the past because he does not want to focus on the present. is there a particular reason why he subconsciously focuses on the past rather than the present teams?
Punch him in the seed...
You say he puts down the south?
Show him this:
God, great find Airharper!!!! I've gotta work with a bunch of ignorant northerners who look down on Bama like their t-shirts claim "Bama vs Cousins"...
I'm gonna run with this one!! Ignorant hypocrites...
And as far as polls go, only a ND idiot would know so well how the titles were dealt out back then... Thats about the last era where they were remotely relevant.
Sorry ND tool, as Shooter McGavin says "we were too busy WINNING" to notice your rhetoric the last decade or 2
Thank you, sir. They are a bunch of elitist, preppie private school kids who think they are our superior in every facet of life and think they are better than everyone else.
If we beat them on Jan. 7 and win #15, #10, or whatever, you won't hear a word from him. ND fans will crawl back into the hole they've been in since the late 1980s.
Brian Kelly killed a kid. and Manti Te'o is a suspected rapist.
There is your ammo. And both are factual.

I don't think that Teo is the rapist. His name was mentioned in another thread.
