I went to the game and, of course, had the time of my life. However, I think I have a new fan base that I hate almost as much as Auburn. I was sitting amongst a bunch of Notre Dame fans and they were a bunch of obnoxious a-holes. First, they booed our band, then booed all the other players who were announced for awards, except of No-Show Te'o who received a thunderous cheer from them. As the game turned quickly into a rout and it became apparent they were no match for Bama, they resorted to blaming the referees and coming up with all sorts of conspiracy theories involving the refs and Bama (a familiar Auburn mantra). At one point, they flashed the Notre Dame #1 in graduation rate stat up on the jumbotron which prompted the predictable comments about Alabama graduates working as gas station attendants, etc. Anyway, I don't know if anybody else who went to the game had any bad encounters, but they were one classless bunch. At least most of them were gone by midway through the third quarter. Roll Tide Roll!
I am Catholic and will never, not that I have, ever root for them in anything. I received same vibe from them. Had no respect for us. I really think it is/ was a north- south thing more than anything else. That being said, Penn St and Bama fans seemed to respect each other fairly well.
I'll agree with the OP...The ND fanbase, as I posted before, were as arrogant, and cocksure group as I had EVER seen for the days and hours leading up to the game. Of course, they were not to be found afterwards...not one. I met 2 of ALL the ND fans that I would say were nice...and that was it.

I guess I'm thankful I didn't have that experience. Encountered many ND fans that were outgoing and respectful. I was in the Bama section and had two ND fans in front of me, nice as ever. Talked with them more than anyone else around. They had an idea that this could happen and were very realisitc.
I had a ND fan throw up the graduation rate thing to me. I reminded him we were #7 in the nation and that since 2000 we had more USA Today Academic all-americans than any other school, Harvard being second. Our Center won the Academic Heisman (Campbell) I also told them it must have been an accident that ND had not appeared anywhere on the top 10 list at all.
Then said our graduation rate numbers dont include all our kids that go to jail. I told them they were confusing us with Auburn and our school is not the one that has reports in ESPN, SI and the Washington Post about covering up crimal activities by our players.
They then shut up.

I have to admit that I showed my @ss a bit in the 1st quarter (cause after that there was no reason to anymore) I've read these posts about how classy the ND fanbase was... Well there weren't around me all day and they sure as hell weren't in section 125. I just had enough of it all day, ND fans yelling Roll Tide in a heavy southern accent, then laughing about dumb rednecks. I must have yelled "where's Manti?!?" 20 times in the first 3 possessions.
you sir, are my hero.
Don't forget, that as a private school, Notre Dame releases whatever they want to say in regards to their academics. It doesn't have to have facts involved at all.
You must have been in my section. What a bunch of classless turds. All I heard was f Bama f the sec. Then blaming the refs. What a joke they were
They also booed the paratrooper who was carrying the Bama flag into the stadium. I just don't understand how they look down on us. The whole day was like a rave on the jersey shore. Biggest group of white trash I've seen.
All good points. I would have asked them why their general student population isn't as "racially diverse" as their football team.
Notre Dame graduates 97% of their players, so what?
ALABAMA graduates 100% of their players. Which is those left who did not go early to the NFL......True statement.
Coach Bryant had a reply for those who brought up academics, "Never seen 85 thousand people rally around the Math team."
Exactly the same experience
At halftime I texted my Notre Dame friend and asked him if Manti Ta'o played the 1st half. Then I said, if so, what number was he wearing???
LSU has the worse fan base by far. Auburn and maybe USCe then UTk after that. I posted yesterday that I got a ride too and from the game from a wonderful ND couple. Every fan base has its crazies but PSU, TAMU and ND are at top of my list as the best I've experienced personally.
I hate them. If I go to hell it will be being stuck in an elevator with hundreds of au, ut, and nd fans that just crapped their pants and want to talk football
