"Nobility is not a birth-right; it is defined by one's actions"
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts from everyone from all of us. Sad to see Paul move but wish him the best. We are proud to take over the 2-6 slot. Working on the noon show right now. This is Dr. Mark Ricketts, the Doc on Jox, and I will be on today at 230. A final time and RT lineup being worked on. Thanks for listening!!!
Is it bad that your theme song started playing in my head as soon as you identified yourself?
I hope they can land a good mid-day show.
Seems from reading the articles the most likely destination for Paul will be 97.3 and ESPN. He will have a national ESPN show like Cowherd but will be broadcasted from Birmingham. He will probably also air on the ESPN XM station.
I doubt XM can offer him enough to go exclusive to them at this point.
I too hope that JOX can find a good show to air during my lunch. Some of the good radio guys are already at 97.3, Griff and Coulter. Not sure who is around locally to fill that void and my guess is they might syndicate a national show.
I listened to some of the czars yesterday and on a scale of opening drive being the worst and Roundtable being the best I would say they were closer to opening drive than Roundtable. However, the show might be tolerable as a bridge.
I love the RT so I'm kinda bummed they are moving out of the midday time slot. I really enjoyed listening to them while eating lunch. I hope they fill that slot with somebody good.
As for Finebaum, I don't like his show. The callers are unbearably stupid and I don't think Paul really knows anything about sports. Every time he's asked a legitimate sports question, he really has no decent insight. He has connections and has some really good guests but his general sports knowledge is pretty poor and I think he would tell you that. His show is built around making fun of stupid callers for entertainment value (75%) and hearing from knowledgeable writers/analysts (25%). That 75% of the show doesn't entertain me, it just makes me sad that people like his callers actually exist.
I love the RT because Lance knows what he's talking about (so do D&B but moreso Lance) when it comes to sports (and gambling) and he and D&B are funny together. Rockstar is funny too. Their show is aimed at 20-30 something males and I'm right in their wheelhouse I guess.
Btw, I can't listen to 97.3. It's just awful.
I can't believe you just talked about Coulter and good radio in the same sentence.
Seriously, I think he one of the worst.
I hope they go outside the market and get someone to bring in because there is no one in the current market that is really worthy of a show IMO. My dream would be if they could land Chris Vernon, but that seems like a stretch since he is in Memphis.
who else from the rt has a bol account?
Agree. Lance comes off as an arrogant douche most days, and a downright prick of a jerk on others. He's annoying but I like d& b so much they more than make up for him fortunately.
1960 Les Paul
Yes it was! Finebaum act is old. Tammy and others are not funny anymore. It became immature that I had to hear Tammy needed some loving every day, which is a G rated way to say this. I have been listening to Finbaum for a long time and the act has progressively gotten worse. I like his interviews but the callers are an old act.
U really can do a radio show from anywhere nowadays. Vernon would be great, IMHO.
He is on the show an hour a week and advertises as well so he has a monetary interest in the show.
Nice job being a dick for no reason though.
That is one of the most laughable statements I've ever read on this board. LT just thinks he knows everything. Alas, I guess he's managed to convince some of this fallacy as well. Smh.
I don't get that at all. I like what LT brings to the table. He seems to be more knowledgable about sports than Dunaway or Brown. I'm not knocking D&B because I like what they add to the show as well.
Verno would be a great fill-in.
Hmm. I stand corrected then, didn't know he was part of the team and always just assumed it was LT and D&B. I'll listen today and see if they've started saying LT, D&B and MD... ;)
to each his/her own. Just my PHO.. I like the show but LT has ALWAYS grated on my nerves.
Wow you're really on fire ITT. LT knows more than any other sports personality in the Bham market, I'm confident in that statement. The guy can talk intelligently about the NFL, CFB, the NBA, CBB, MLB. His gambling success in several sports tells you he knows what he's talking about.
His gambling success?? I'm not interested in a fight, I'm just expressing my opinion. LT may speak "with authority" on those things, but it sounds like BS to me most of the time...
That's right. I'm not trying to knock you for your opinion. Some people don't like red meat. I think they're crazy as hell, but that's their preference.
Quoted for truth
Why does everyone here think "Rockstar" is so hilarious? For those bashing Finebaum's knowledge of sports whats the response to that guy??. LT is ok...I think he is pretty knowledgeable but his commercials constantly telling you to "get in today, get in, get in" 1,000 times a break are annoying as hell.
