So the kid is asked to wait 6 months to join the best football team in the country, and then start is FREE, I repeat FREE college education, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for him. Of course I wish he was on the team, but he made a decision, and thats the end of it. Ill be paying off student loans til I'm 60, so pardon me if I dont feel sorry for a kid that was offered a FULL RIDE to The U of A.
Scholarship = free year of schooling at Alabama
Greyshirt scholarship = free year of schooling at Alabama, after a 6-month delay
Your word is your word. . .
Lot of knee jerk anger on the board over this. If the kid was upset then I feel bad for him... Our staff has an excellent record on communicating effectively to the prospective student athletes. In fact as the last 5 years prove, they are the best in the country at communicating with prospects.
Was a mistake made here? Possibly. However to make assumptions based on reports from people who are emotionally involved in the situation is well... (can't think of a nice way to say stupid).
It is just as likely that the staff was perfectly open about the possibility from day one and DP just didn't pay attention to it in the excitement over getting to play for Alabama.
All I am saying is that no one on this board, including insiders, staff, etc knows what happened in this situation, so making definitive judgements is stupid.
Coach Saban and our staff has earned the right to the benefit of the doubt.
