Flame away at him......
This post was edited by Charles Power 7 months ago
Pray for Tuscaloosa and Roll Tide!
I would rather see him hire a good assistant that knows offense. It's hard to watch our ball movement (or lack of) at times and think we should be doing better with the talent that we have.
The Dynasty is Here!
I would keep Coach Hip then get rid of Pujol and weird looking Brannon and bring in some folks that can run some good offense
I think if Grant fired anyone it would be Hipsher. He's the oldest coach on the staff and is the easiest scapegoat. But I'm not certain any of them know what the hell they're doing offensively.
If Hip had a clue, don't you think he'd have had some kind of influence by now. They all need to be gone at the end of the year if the product doesn't improve.
Or...if you think you can get Pearl when his show cause is over, start making moves behind the scenes now and have a plan in place to get him when you can again (either by keeping Grant until that time or by putting together an interim skeleton staff next year.) I'd be fine with another year of Grant if it meant we could absolutely get Pearl the next season.
The reality is, Alabama isn't going to hire an upper echelon coach. We ain't getting Brad Stevens, Mark Few, Jay Wright, etc. And we certainly ain't getting anyone better than that group.
Unless you go the mid-major route again and hire someone like Shaka Smart, who honestly probably has bigger fish to fry down the road than us anyways, a guy on the rebound like Pearl is probably our best option. Almost everyone in the league has upgraded. Cal, Donovan, Stallings, Haith, and Martin are all better than Grant. The rest are about even with him.
We need someone dynamic who will sell this program. Someone with energy. I thought Grant was that guy but clearly he is a statue on the bench. Not a media savvy guy either. This program is on life support and is a year or two away from being Auburn or UGA. Dead.
I can no longer optimistically make excuses for Grant. I will eat my crow. The lack of offense with the kind of talent we have is inexcusable. Grant must either fix it immediately. Or, he must go.
Start a " Get gone with Grant " club.........I remember when Gomer Jones took over for Bud Wilkerson at OU they started a "Get gone with Gomer Club after one year. Like many of you guys, if he would be open to hiring someone who has some offensive knowledge it would help him remain here. He needs to make that move asap or the storm will continue. As it stands now, we don't deserve an invite once this season is over....to any post season tourney
Grant is now officially David Hobbs 2.0. Signs good players. Teams play disciplined and tough on defense Offensively Hobbs' teams were completely lost and its obvious tonight that we were completely lost out there. I think i saw 1, maybe 2 cuts all night. The problem I keep seeing with Grant's teams is they tend to give up good shots early in the shot clock and then make bad passes around the perimeter (passes that aren't in a person's reach such that they can catch and shoot), then finally with 10 seconds left Lacey or Releford gets the ball and goes 1 on 1.
You can tell this offense is getting to Releford. You can see it take the life out of Cooper during games. Jacobs starts giving up completely because there's no effort to get the ball inside. Gueye probably doesn't even know what hemisphere he's in much less how to even play basketball other than jump and throw elbows.
I'll give AU some credit cuz they did play perfect defense at times, but our offense is easily stopped by simply switching all screens since the only thing we seem to do is ball screens and then baseline screens to rotate players around the back. Theres no post player involvement what-so-ever except to set the ball screen at the top of the key. Only once did Jacobs actually roll to the basket and guess what, he scored.
One last thing I want to add because its starting to annoy the ever living heck outta me. But why can Jacobs not put other post men on his back? He seems to have zero ability to keep a guy on his back long enough for anyone to pass him the damn ball. It isn't because Jacobs is small and weak. And if Jacobs makes one more half-assed one handed catch attempt someone should just basically tie Jacobs' right arm behind his back because he hasn't used his right arm or right hand all freaking year.

I really, truly don't understand this team. One minute they're beating Kentucky, the next they're losing like this.
Embarrassing that is what I call it.
In all honesty we are lucky this type score hasn't happened multiple times and we aren't about 2-7 in the SEC. That is not acceptable and shouldn't be for any coach of any team, much less one that is getting paid the money our is. We shouldn't be going to and watching games hoping to win, we should be expecting to win and I don't think our players go in expecting to win because they don't play with that urgency and agressiveness except for small stretches in games.
There is no way a halfway decent team, one that is play for postseason and should know where they stand in that regard, should play like they did last night. When you have the type lead we had you put the hammer down early and end any doubt. We didn't play with that kind of urgency. When you push that lead back out at the half, you come out in the 2nd half and put it away quickly. We didn't play with that kind of urgency.
It is really baffling to think about it the next day and to look back at this season and think about how passive this team is. It is like they don't really believe in themselves or each other. There are some real motivatiion and positive reinforcement issues in this program right now. I don't know what the solution is.
Bama's offense is just brutal to watch, and you can't blame talent because it is definitely there. I used to think Gottfried's offense was terrible, but Grant has taken it to another level. The primary set seems to be four guys stand around the three point line with no movement and then hope one of the guys can create off the dribble. Really inefficient way to get points.
This team needs to watch some of Indiana's games. They know how to move the basketball and get open high percentage shots.
I like Nash's strategy...
1960 Les Paul
When does spring practice start again?
Florida got crushed by a mediocre arkansas team. Kentucky lost at home to a&m. I guess it makes sense to fire a coach who is 6-3 in conference play and a game out of second place.
Ed its not about what other teams are doing its what Bama is doing and not doing, lack of player development, inept offense for several years I can see why T Mitchell got frustrated. Its no way I would send my son to play for Grant with the product he is putting on the floor........
If you want to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password, "Roll, tide, roll!"
Poor bastards getting off the bus in Tuscaloosa will probably feel like those dumped on Omaha Beach - Unknown Vol's fan
I think we could be a really good program like OSU and Florida and be good at both. I am not sure who to get but I defiantly think we could be a top 25 team every year with the right coach.
You mean the coach who also lost at home to Tulane? And Mercer?
The one who got run out of the gym against his former team and coaching understudy?
The coach whose team has managed to break 59 points exactly 3 out of 9 times in SEC play? And the 6 of 9 where they failed to get out of the 50's just happened to be the last 6 games in a row? (clearly showing no signs of progress on that end)
The guy whose team also failed to break 60 in HALF its games this year?
Or is this the coach who appears to be on track to make the NCAA Tournament exactly ONE out of four years?
The coach who failed to win an 8/9 matchup in the ONE year he did make the tournament?
The coach who has somehow failed to recruit and develop ONE capable post player in the four years he's been here?
Are we talking about the coach who manages to let his team go 10-minute stretches without scoring a point (literally - without a single point) without so much as calling a timeout or putting his best player back into the game?
The coach who allows his team to get to the point of being sexually violated on the floor without leaving his chair, let alone actually speaking to an official or....dare I say it, showing enough fire to warrant a technical foul?
Just making sure we're speaking of the same coach. I may be confused.

Hipsher is not the problem. He is the best assistant on the staff, but Grant won't let him coach. A lot of people that are insiders to the program have said this over and over. You don't just fire someone because they are the oldest person on staff, that's illegal.
Also, to say Haith is better than Grant is comical. Haith is an absolute good and Missouri will reflect that when Mike's guys have moved on.
Alabama is 6-3 in conference play and in a good position to make the tournamnet. The only people discussing firing coach Grant are the basketball geniuses on this board. He wont be fired and he will succeed. Carry on with your bitch fest.........
