If it were my call he'd be gone after this season but I know that's unrealistic.. next year anything short of making the tourny and actually winning a game, at minimum, is grounds for CAG needing to seek other employment. And in year 5 of a program (one that traditionally makes LOTS of tournaments and is very often highly seeded) that is a pitifully low standard of expectations
You really must not have been watching bama the last few coaches we have had. Look at MG record in the years he was over the program. Also I am glad you are not MM lol How about you get fired from your job next yr.....I think that would be great because CAG will still be at bama. If MM did like half of you rednecks on this sight then bama would owe a lot of coaches. THANK GOD HE NO WHAT HE IS DOING INSTEAD OF DOING LIKE MOST OF YOU BANDWAGON FANS WHO DON'T PUT ANY MONEY INTO THE PROGRAM SAYS.
No excuses next year.

U. Are an idiot!
Unintelligible post is unintelligible.
thanks for your contribution
Tide Pride member in basketball, even though I couldn't afford the season tickets this year, I still gave the basketball tide pride donation. Get off your high horse, most of the people complaining about Grant on here this year support our bball program with our $$.
To everyone who dv'd this thread, what must cag do for you to deem his efforts unsatisfactory? Would missing out on the tourny again next year be acceptable? Not trying to be a douche I honestly am curious what the collective expectations of our fan base are
I've asked that question in other threads and what is generally said by both pro Grand and anti-Grant sides is a tourney team 75% of the time with a sweet sixteen type run every 5 or 6 years.
Near as I can tell, both sides want the same things from our program, just some still have faith that Grant will get us there and some of us have lost faith in Grant to get us there.
Sounds about right
I hear you. This year was a let down. I thought we would be a tournament team this year. However, looking at this realistically, Grant has not done anything that warrants him being fired or really even on the hot seat.
He has been at Alabama for four years. His first season was a wash. No expectations with a depleted roster. When he arrived, morale was low, the team didn't have a real point guard, and needed someone who could score points. He finished the season above .500 and the team was competitive despite personnel issues.
Season 2, the team improved. He had some misses in his first class that are well documented but one of those guys was Trevor Releford who was a key contributor to that team as a freshman. That team should have made the tournament but we got robbed. However, that team went on to to play for the NIT championship.
Year three, team overcame chemistry and discipline issues to become a tournament team. If you knew how bad things were behind the scenes with Mitchell and company, then to turn that team around and wins games late in the season should have earned him coach of the year. But, in essence, program is making progress under his leadership.
Year four is a let down because of the progress that was made in his first few years. On the court, offense is horrible. However, his guys never quit. They play hard. They play great defense. His teams are always competitive to the final whistle. Seriously, when is the last time you can remember Alabama getting blown out in a game? Additionally, he has routinely pulled in great recruits. Trevor Lacey, Levi Randolph, Trevor Releford, and Devonta Pollard were huge recruits. Now has he missed on some guys? Hell yes, very badly. However the program is not in shambles.
I get why people are frustrated. It is hard to watch Alabama play basketball. But, if you think about it, he has only had one season where expectations were not met. You can not justify firing a guy because of one season when the team doesn't meet expectations. I know everyone hates to hear about next year during the current season. However, he will have a team full of juniors and seniors with more depth in the paint. Alabama will be better next year. Expectations will be high because they should be.
By the way, I didn't downvote you. I just don't agree that he should be fired right now.
Actually Ive had 4 seasons where my expectations were not met. Top 20 salary should at minimum have one season that he at least finished in the top 50 teams. Why is that to much to ask? We demanded the same of Gottfried and fired him for not reaching those expectations.
What were your expectations in year one?
Post of the day IMO
As for my take, I like coach Grant. I'm not happy with what happened today and I'm really not happy with our shooting droughts every game. That being said, I think he's the man for the job for quite a while. Hopefully I'm right for the sake of the program.
It was supposed to say 3 seasons. I give every coach a pass in year one. But we were by no means a dumpster fire like people on here would have us believe.
Yes we were. We were pretty bad. A number of guys were on their way out the door unless Gottfried got fired. Alabama basketball was a mess behind the scenes.
That's true, people say this year we were only 1 legit post player from being a tourney team and they are right. But on the flip side Grant's year one team left from Gotfried was only a legit pg away from being tourney team. Both year one and year four were both one player away, just different positions.
That's why I keep saying we are no better this year than year 1
My bad I forgot we were 0-30 that year and had no talent on that team. Why we were chalk full of 1 star players who never saw a basketball before. Funny that team Grant inherited was light years ahead of his year 4 team offensively.
I think you are missing my point. A lot of effort had to be put in behind the scenes to keep players from leaving. For example, one of the key players on Grant's first team was getting ready to transfer. He wanted out. The team had talent but morale was at an all time low.
So, maybe I wasn't clear. For that I apologize. However I was privy to a lot of what was going on because I had a close connection to the team during the transition.
And that is no excuse every new coach deals with those issues when coming on board. Name me one coach who inherits a program that doesn't have to deal with transfer issues?
Ok. You are convinced that Grant isn't the guy. That's fine. I am not convinced myself.
We agree on the basic point so there is really no argument about his first season. Maybe dumpster fire was too harsh a word. I will also concede that it may have been worse to me because I actually got to see what was going on with the program Gottfried's last couple of years.
