Injuries and LSU. From what I've seen after 3 weeks of the season, only key injuries or LSU can stop Alabama from winning it's 3rd national championship in 4 years. I think the only team that can bring Bama down is LSU and if Bama brings their "A" game then even they can't stop us. LSU is really good again but I think they're a small step behind what they were last year on defense.
We are now seeing what 5 straight years of top recruiting classes, combined with everybody on the squad buying in to what Saban is doing, come to fruition. Alabama is as close to an NFL team as a college program can get. This squad seems focused, workmanlike and prepared to go the distance. We are really witnessing a special time in Bama history.
Two things are Injuries and Bama its self..if we stay in pretty good shape physically and mentally I don't think we have to worry about LSU
Yes we do! LSU will be a brutal game, and will have much improved QB play! We have to worry about LSU every year, just like LSU will have to worry about us.
The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.
If we cut out the penalties and the OL continues to gel, plus no key injuries, I don't see anyone having a legit shot. Oh ya, and if Vinnie starts form tackling instead of trying to blow people up. He's gonna let someone score a td by doing that before it's said and done. I'm just glad we got a few more games to get better before we are tested for real. I get the feeling we are thriving on talent atm but aren't a confident defense yet like last year. I think our offense can do as they please when push comes to shove. I'm still worried about not having an answer for replacing Smelley. He was the key to so many drives last year . A first down machine. We seem to be going for the deeper routes so far. I just hope we come up with something for third and 3 that was as automatic as Smelley was last year. Fowler was it but who knows now.
"We're modern-day gladiators, and that mental toughness is really important to have in a good team." Nick Saban
LSU is one of the few teams that has the horses to keep up with us. Any team can be beat but it will take our opponent playing a great game + us beating ourselves some as well. Injuries to key players could derail us also.
Basically, if we stay healthy and bring our A game every week, I like our chances in most of our games this year.
The difference in this years team as a whole is the depth of talent at receiver i honestly believe that there is no way to stop our offense from scoring some teams like lsu can keep us honest but this team has shown the abilty to beat the opposition any way they want to I dont recall at all last year having 1 deep threat that you had to account for at all times but this year jones has gotten deep, norwood and white and cooper is the truth just got to get some experience.
Elite talent + Elite Coaching + Discipline + Focus + Motivation = Runaway Frieght Train
As long as Bama sustains its focus and motivation we will not lose a game this year. We are simply better (talent & coaching) than everyone else.
"The (All In) Family"
Agreed on Vinnie. He has to start form tackling and stop trying to simply knock people down.
Having watched both teams so far, only INJURIES can keep Alabama from #15. That is all. RTR~
I was gonna go with Superman and Armageddon, but I guess injuries and LSU is ok too.
There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success.
Firstly, you're delusional if you don't think LSU will be a damn dog fight. We were vastly superior to them in '09 but they still scratched and clawed and it took a near Herculean effort by Julio to secure the victory. I would think by now that underestimating LSU is a loser mentality.
Secondly,we haven't played anybody. Yes, preseason, it looked like we'd have two strong matchups in our first 3 games. Reality is that Michigan is an average team and Arkansas is a terrible team (without Wilson). We beat them like an average team (40-14) and a terrible team (52-0) but who the players had circled on the calendar believing them to be quality opponents. Are we 26 points better than Michigan. Yes. Are we 52 points better than a Wilsonless Arkansas? No. We're 100 better (we could have named out score).
I still believe we'll beat LSU b/c we are just better and, at this point, have a lot more depth since they lost half their team to suspension. It will be a physical battle though. Plus, they've had this game circled since January 9 and would love nothing more than to repay us for wrecking their season last year.
Arkansas had us circled also. I am sure Michigan had us circled too. How did that work out for them? Every team we play every year even before our rise back to the top have Alabama circled because of our tradition.
